First of all, welcome to Legacy!

If you are a new player, just happened to find your way around the site and found it interesting enough to join in, then this guide is just for you! Whether you are a newb or a veteran player, this guide has all the answers to those annoying little questions everyone is always asking about (or almost all anyway). While this guide is in no way an alternative to reading the rules (in fact, you should have done that before coming here), it does serve the purpose of easing into the RP without a hundred different people calling you an idiot. Just like a nice warm tube of lube (hey, that rhymed!).

Eventually, these will all be arranged. Any questions this FAQ might have missed can be posted in the Suggestions and Complaints or General Discussion and FAQs forums and will be added in due time.

Any corrections or related concerns to this FAQ may be posted here.

Q: I just found my way to this site and I think its awesome! What do I do first?
A: Well, as with any RP site (assuming you have been RPing prior to Legacy, in which case you will find it far beneficial for you if you have), the first and foremost obligation you must do as a new member is READ THE RULES. Yes, all of them. No exceptions. There’s just no way to get around it. Read ‘em. Learn ‘em. Live by ‘em. It may very well save your life. Or at least your position of respectability.

Oh, and don’t forget to introduce yourself here, in the Delibird's Presenting Forum to get acquainted with all the good people. 30 seconds of fame, Holmes!

Q: Yes, boss lady/ma’am/sir, I’ve read the rules and such. What do I do next?
A: *tsks* If you’ve read the rules, you wouldn’t be asking me that. <.<;; But I’ll humor you anyway. Now that you’ve grasped a general understanding of how the game operates, you’re now ready to make a character. *squee!* This character can be anything your little heart desires…within reasonable limits of course. If you want your character to be some sort of alien being from another world or some unholy cross between a human and something such, you’ll need to ask special permission from our ‘lovable’ admin team. Remember, this character will be your trainer and you’ll be stuck with him/her/it for the duration of the RP, so choose well.

Once you’ve done that, go to Your House located on the first IC forum (That should be in Hillmoss Town, I believe) to gain the necessary items for your quest (money, Poketech, and Escape Rope with three charges). Remember, the better you write, the better your earnings! Afterwards, you may proceed to the Pokemon Laboratory to get your starter Pokemon! Squee! And from then on out, the world is your oyster sauce.

Q: So I kinda got tired of my trainer and got a great idea for another one! Can I make another character?
A: No. You only get one. If you wish to make another character, the first one you’ve made and everything s/he/it is in possession of will be terminated. And, yes, we will know if you give them away prior to termination and have people trade it back to your new character. >.> Making another account for another character with one still active is also not allowed (and again, we will find out.).

Q: So I got my stuff, my Pokemon, and am free to roam wherever I wish. Anything else I need to do?
A: Yes. You need to make a profile. Heard of them? They contain the information of your trainer and your Pokemon. They don’t need to be anything flashy or pimped out like a Myspace profile. Just as long as they contain the essential information:

~Trainer Info
Trainer Name
Items Carried
Money Carried
Badges Earned
Party Pokemon

~Pokemon Info
Level / Experience earned
Species
Type
Gender
Happiness
Item Held (if any)
Attack Movelist
Ability
Trainer Memo (where and at what level it was caught at)
Optional
Name
Original Trainer
Evs (Effort Values)

Once you have your profile set, you need to fix your signature so that a link is available to it. This will give mods an easier time to get to your information while modding. You also need to add in your signature your Average Party Level, or APL. This is determined by adding the levels of all your party pokemon, then dividing it by the number of Pokemon.

Ex: My party is Lv 5 Bulbasaur, Lv 3 Mukkuru, and a LV 6 Rattata. Added together, their combines level is 14. Then divide it by the number of Pokemon, (which is 3), to get 4.6, or 5.

See? Easy.

Q: Anything else I need to keep track of?
A: Nothing constant to be put in your signature (unless you enjoy repeatedly editing it), but you do have to put a few things at the end of your posts while journeying, if applicable. These things include:

Travel Information
If you are moving to reach a specific destination, this information should be at the end of your roleplay posts:
-Your current landmark in an area
-The next landmark you plan to reach
-Destination (optional)

Battle Information
If you are engaged in a battle, the following information should be at the end of your posts for the Pokemon being used and your opponent’s Pokemon:
-Gender
-Level
-Current HP
-Happiness
-Status changes and status ailments
-Ability (it it affects the battle)
-Attacks being used
-Any other relevant battle info

Post Count Information
Other such information that relies on IC posts (such as egg hatching) would require you to put a number marker for the posts being counted.

Q: Speaking of battles, what are the attacks my Pokemon can use/learn and how many can they have at a time?
A: All Pokemon can have up to six attacks at a time and a default seventh (Tackle). Upon first receiving a Pokemon, they would automatically know all the attacks up to its current level. (i.e: A newly received LV 5 Bulbasaur would already know Tackle and Growl. A newly received Gyarados would know Thrash and Bite) AND two Advanced Moves.

Advanced Moves are any move the Pokemon has within its movepool that it would learn leveling up naturally. (i.e: That LV 5 Bulbasaur can know Synthesis and Seed Bomb as advanced moves; A Lv 20 Gyarados can learn Aqua Tail and Hyper Beam as advanced moves) Every Pokemon may have up to two.

Advanced Move Rules
1. Only moves within a Pokemon’s Level Up movepool can be learned. (aka: moves that can be learned naturally by leveling up.) As of now, we always use the most update movelist (Diamond/Pearl).
2. You cannot use moves that can only be learned through breeding (egg moves), move tutor, or using TMs/HMs.
3. You cannot use moves that are not part of a Pokemon’s current moveset yet can be learned at another evolutionary level.
Sit 1: Torchic cannot have Sky Uppercut as an advanced move since it does not learn it leveling up. It needs to evolve into Combusken/Blaziken in order to learn it; Swablu initially does not have Dragonbreath: it must evolve into Altaria to learn it since Dragonbreath is available in Altaria’s Level Up movepool and not Swablu’s.
Sit 2: A Gyarados given its initial moveset cannot know Splash/Tackle as these moves are only known in its previous form as Magikarp, as Metapod given its initial moveset cannot learn String Shot since it only learns it as Caterpie. The only way around this is rule is to have the moves part of the moveset before evolution (i.e: Having a Magikarp/Caterpie then evolving it.)

Q: I notice some Pokemon have two abilities. Can they have both?
A: No. Pokemon only know one ability. If wild Pokemon appear to use a certain ability prior to being captured, then that ability sticks with them and cannot be changed. There are some special conditions, however, that allow a Pokemon to own two abilities at once.

Q: Crap! A Pokemon knocked out my last and only able Pokemon! What do I do?
A: Veteran players would term this as ‘Blackout/Whiteout’. In Legacy, however, you would simply be left Pokemon-less, and at risk for being attacked with no means of defending yourself until you reach a Pokemon Center or heal your party by some other means. Or this can activate the Escape Rope emergency switch to teleport you back to the previous Pokemon Center if the trigger is set.

Quote:

If a trainer's Pokedex records that all Pokemon in the trainer's party have fainted, it will automatically trigger the Escape Rope unit and teleport the trainer back to their set location. This can be turned off by the trainer, making all triggers manual.

Q: Hey, we’re allowed to combo moves? Sweet! But how does that work exactly?
A: Combos (or ‘combinations’ for you non-game savvy types) is putting together two attacks in tandem to create a brilliantly new and effective maneuver that deviates from the usual ‘point n’ shoot’ way Pokemon games operate. Basically, any two attacks are allowed to be considered ‘combos’, but 1.) Must be realistic to be performed, and 2.) Put into descript detail, just in case. Normally, it would be a mod's call to see if the maneuver is successful or not, so be sure that whatever you’re trying to pull off doesn’t defy all means of physics and logic…much.

Q: What is that delicious smell wafting around in the air here?
A: It is the delicious Tauros Burger! Stop by your nearest Tauros Burger to pick one up today. </viral advertising>

Q: Hey, I haven't been modded in awhile? What should I do to get modded?
A: There is a thread just for that, in the Suggestions and Complaints Forum! Simply post in that thread, and someone will get right too it.

Q: I heard something about a tier system for the badges. How does that work!?
A: Here's a list!
Tier I: Rose, Radloff, Mayriver, Ashdell - Levels 10>
Tier II: Malral, Aridair, Necrophicix, Escennia - Levels 35>
Tier III: Felcrest, Bloodaisy, KBVille, Slumber - Levels 60>

This post serves the double purpose of reminding Legacy that we indeed do have a FAQs thread and that people should post their need-to-knows here and a footnote for the things I need to add until a later time when I can properly put them up.

Add:
-Gen exp
-Canon/non-canon
-Odd attacks

EDITED BY FLIGHT:

Canon has only one 'n'. XD

I was hoping people understood that as being obligatory.
