*wandering from the riverside 1, going into trampled grass eventually*

With a sharp jolt, I had found myself at another shore. Face first in the sand. I hated it when sand got onto my face. Such a troublesome thing. With all things though, I took it slow and meticulously washed my face and eyes with the icy water. Which hit me quite hard at first. For while it was cold, it was extremely pure, much more than the other land.

What kind of land was this? Was it another dimension of sorts, how the region before might have turned out, if events had happened differently? Maybe.

Getting back up, I thought about what shore I landed on, so I took out the Poketech (I had taken the trainer's bag as well), and slowly used a psychic press to access each of the various, easy to use functions. After a few minutes of twiddling the functions, I saw that I was in the riverside portion of the Moorfeldt Grasslands. Strangely enough, for a river, there were no water pokemon in the vicinity. Not even a Magikarp, which strangely enough were common in the past, but nowadays, not even a splash could be hurt from the river.

My feet weren't too sore, so it was time to get walking. First up was a stroll on the river side, where perhaps I could come upon a trinket or even a pokemon, though it was quite cold. The sand slipped beneath my feet, if you could call them that, as each step left an imprint soon to be erased by water.

Things along the riverside were quite quaint. Nothing much of excitement was happening. The sound of water crashing against the shore was the only thing worthy of being mentioned... that, and that there Ledyba drinking out of the water. It was obviously thirsty, and it was taking time out of its day to have a lil' sip of water. How nice.

Breezes flew in and about his crown, like wrasses who dart in with their half-bold, half-calm selves. I did stand out a bit. Not rainbowish, pink sort of sat there, and stared at the spotlight. Ledyba, from my standpoint, often had that happen to them. A pokemon not at all renowned for its skills in battle, Ledyba and its evolution, Ledian, soon found their novelty waning among trainers.

Their position was much like mine, in a way. My species was a rarity among trainers simply due to sheer circumstance of having a Slowpoke, a King's Rock, and the time to raise. They were rare simply because no one wanted them. So, out of brotherhood, I walked up to the Ledyba, lifting water from the river for a drink.

I made sure to keep my distance, a few yards at least, as to not startle the ladybug.
Telepathically speaking to the Ledyba, I sipped the globules quietly and slowly.

"Hello there."

The ledyba looked up from where it was drinking and over to where it heard the telepathic voice originating, its eyes blinking some.

"Hello. Would you like to come have some water too? Its very... watery... today" The ledyba returned the communication, as it returned to its drinking, obviously not disturbed or frightened in the slightest bit.

"Oh, is that so? Water's never been a problem for me. Though I am rather fussy with dry areas. Always so tepid. But of course, I'll have some."

Letting out a breath, he slowly nudged one little stubby foot after another into the shallows. The Slowking had marveled at how humans had so much dexterity, with their limber hands and feet. Having little stumps for feet didn't help much with moving rapidly. Despite his displeasure, he smiled at the Ledyba as he waded in.

"So what brings you to these parts? I'm on a journey, and I happened to make it here, although I fear I'll never find what I seek."

Spasm. Another sort of thing he had to go through, before even trying to think. It was one of utter pain. Dear heavens, why. It was a trickle at first. Sort of damned, telekinesis was. And then it exploded.

An uncontrollable geyser of drops and buckets flew into the air, blowing gusts of air into the surrounding bank. Yet it instantly formed into an obelisk above him, creating another clap as a vacuum was filled. Finally, it was done. Siphoning water off from the descending obelisk into his mouth, the spire slowly fell onto the Slowking, wrapping around him like a sphere.

"This is really quite nice. It's how I take my baths, no matter the quality of the water. If you'd like, I could offer it to you, before I venture off. But stand back, please."

Accelerating the swirl around him, the obelisk descended into oblivion and transformed into a frothy mess, albeit confined in a sphere. Scrubbing and rubbing, the bubbles soon settled to the top and the sphere fell back to whenst it came. Standing in the warm sun and the cold water, he finally felt refreshed. His shell was quite polished, which it happened to like and the rest of his body become spotless.

Emerging with a shake of his head and a few splashes, he waded back onto shore.

"I enjoyed your company, but I need to sun myself for a while. After all, I don't want to walk around wet. If you need anything of me, I'll be leaning against the nearest tree."

And he did.

OOC: I'll award Gexp after this, seeing as it wasn't implemented way back then.

And I'm currently going from Riverside 1 in the direction of the Town of Moorfeldt.

The whithered brown shell of the long dead Ledyba laid there, apparently having waited the entire time to the point of starvation and death.. su prisingly, it seemed like the entire area hadnt changed an instant, like time had been frozen for the trainer and the land, except for the pokemon.

Other pokemon seemed to steer clear of the trainer as he traveled on towards the direction of the city as his feet found its way towards the long strip of trampled grass...

"Hum. That's utterly confusing."

There was a year's worth of dust on his shell, like he'd never taken a bath at all. And yet, the desiccated shell of the Ledyba haunted him like no other. Not even a ghost gave him tremors and yet, the Ledyba being there one minute and dead the next was familiar. Sort of a recurring theme on his travels. Now then, onto Moorfeldt.

He had hoped the first city he encountered would be relatively pleasant and not be xenophobic of other kinds of trainers. Why was it that humans were so alienated towards pokemon? Were they so fixed on the position of being master? To him, they were all the same. He so very wished to know someone half-decent of their spot in life. Didn't everyone?

Moorfeldt couldn't be that far, right? One little step at a time, I suppose.

Walking, albeit slowly, to Moorfeldt.

Attached to their position as master? You could say that. Conquest was the game the world played, and lacking a new frontier to colonize, it was all anyone could do to turn inward and redouble the mastery of what they already owned. Chuain was a slowking in a man's world; already subject, he was a ripe prize to further enslave.

Just as this fellow walking in the direction opposite him realized, as he spotted the pokemon walking down the path.

' Oh my gods!' He yelled, surprise marring his already ugly face. ' A slowking! No way!' He fumbled excitedly at his belt for pokeballs, and threw a pair down in front of him, revealing on the one hand a silvery, floating ball and on the other, a sleek, green lizard.

' All right, Connie! Run around it with Agility to confuse it, then use Mega Drain! Maggie, start with Thunderwave, then Supersonic!'

He had planned to be quite courteous with the trainer, but it would be better to save that courtesy for another, preferably less fanatic trainer. Damn his rarity. For all he cared, he might as well be a Rattata. And that gave him an idea, upon which he would act upon when he reached the next town. As for this cheeky fellow, he couldn't help but pause as he said his commands. After all, it was a turn-based situation, with respect on both sides, no matter the opponent.

But life never said a pokemon can't wield a pokemon. Out came his partner, Phlogi. A little too crazy to come out in a normal battle, he was kept tightly under lock via telekinesis. You know, to keep him from killing things. The knife wasn't necessary yet, so he withheld it from the swerving Panda.

"Don't kill them, ok? Just dehabilitate with a Teeter Dance. You'll most likely go last, so use that time to see if you can Dance into a Dizzy Punch on the Treecko."

Though psychotic, Phlogi's lack of memory made him look slightly puzzled. Why can't we just be omniscient, he thought.

"The green lizard that moves like the light. Yes, that thing. Have fun. Wait and hide behind me until I use my Blizzard, so I don't hit you with it. And yes, this is mindspeak. Now go."

So, with a smile, he let Phlogi go and took in a deep breath. If not to hit them, it should at least make them pause. Letting it loose in the duo's direction, the gusty torrent of snow and ice rushed forth. Although it was quite hot, any form of water would do, as a slip, a short-circuit, or simply a freeze would send hesitation or inactivity down their throats. Lizards and machines didn't do well in the cold, after all, but bears could tough it out. So he assumed.

Unfortunately, Dave's Pokemon would have their way in the offing; while Phlogi's summoning sickness paralyzed him momentarily, Connie became a green blur, streaking past the pink king and his insane retainer, laying a vampiric attack into the king's side as he passed. Almost simultaneously, Maggie's thunderwave lanced into Chuain, locking his muscles tight- even in his throat and jaw, shutting his blizzard attack in and giving him a rather nasty moment of ice-cream headache. The robot then created an ear-splitting din, which had exactly no effect at all on either Chuain or Phlogi.

Speaking of whom, he finally came into play, tumbling and arabesquing irrationally, making both Maggie and Connie stumble a bit as their minds took a bit of a sideslip. This gave the psycho enough time to get in close to Connie and lay a whirligig punch on him, knocking him wide into the dirt.

' Hey! What the hell?!' Dave yelled at the appearance and effect of Phlogi, the idea of pokemon wielding Pokemon utterly alien to him. Whatever was going on, he knew he wasn't prepared to lose this opportunity; if he could catch more than one Pokemon in one go, even if the other wasn't so rare or valuable, well, he could stand that. He flicked another pokeball from his belt.

' Vivi, Will-o-wisp that spinda, and Fire Spin the slowking! Connie, keep using Agility, don't let him hit you again, and Mega Drain when you can! Maggie, start hurting him! Metal Sound, then Mirror Shot!'

Unflinching, he took their attacks with a little trouble. Wasn't common to be paralyzed, which made his attacks all the more harder. No musculonervous attacks would work for sure, so a mental assault would be best. First, though, he had to command another one out. Phlogi was autonomous from this point on, since he took his knife. He'd know what to do. Communicating with Lan was what he had to focus on, as it took great effort to reach into a pokeball. As such, he wouldn't strike this turn, but simply buckle down for the next.

Despite being unfit to participate in society, Phlogi was really quite bright. After all, he had analyzed the situation, even not knowing what was exactly what. An attack upon the trainer would be nice, but the Magnemite could put in dent in that. Quickly moving while the aggresor issued his attacks, Phlogi quickly took a pokeball from Chuain and rushed. A dancing Dizzy Punch would suit finely against the lizard, because, despite its obvious speed, it had to think twice about using an attack, and if the trainer was willing to issue two, it'd have roughly a twenty-five percent chance of making both connect. Even if it managed to break through that particular block, its reactions would be undoubtably slowed, as the conflicts of the mind predominate over those of the muscles.

In short, he would Dizzy Punch the speedy lizard and throw the pokeball at the Vulpix.

Whilst he did that, a quick release of the ball towards the fox could shock it for a second. Speaking of content, Lan was inside, hearing Chuain. She was somewhat annoyed, because it was never fun to battle a trainer. They were always so pest-like. Wild Pokemon gave her more enjoyment. And yet, it had to be done. Surprising the Vulpix, she'd immediately shift from the front side of the fox, to avoid any attack, and turn on her leg as an axis to the direction of the Magnemite, then kicking the magnet into some random area away from Chuain. Awaiting a terrible scene, she readied herself for the attack and the battle as a whole, since it was all in the air.

At which point, it all became rather a blur of activity.

Connie stumbled over his own feet and fell on his face. The freshly released Vivi took stock of her situation quickly, and expelled a small, spectral charge from her mouth, which slithered through the air eerily and wrapped itself about Phlogi, searing through fur to skin, burning him nastily.

Apparently he didn't feel it, though; he laid into the reptile heavily, knocking it entirely out of its mind.

Chuain's arm crept slooooowly towards Lancanel's prison; the plan might be for a quick, shocking release, but the body would not obey, nerves misfiring and limbs twitching. Vivi growled, and poured yet more fire from between her lips, pyrokinetically manipulating it into a towering vortex, centered on Chuain. The flames were close, licking at his flesh, and though annoying, it wasn't too painful.

Until Maggie got its act together, and blasted Chuain with a tightly focused beam of sound that recalled sheet metal being torn in half; thereafter, the flames began to hurt exactly twice as much as they had previously. Fortunately, before Maggie could fire off its attack, it abruptly fell out of the air, colliding with the ground like a dropped stack of pots and pans.

Chuain finally made a jab with his claw, and Lancanel's ball popped open and poured her out- fortunately, she rematerialized a few feet removed from the towering inferno, but regardless she was much too late to accomplish anything this round.

Dave, meanwhile, was incensed. He recalled Connie as his face turned a fine shade of purple, swapping his pokeball with his last, and best. Anger in his heart, he unleashed Diedre into the air, and snapped out commands. ' Wrap up the bear and poison it! Vivi, get rid of the rabbit, Extrasensory! Maggie, get over it already and knock out the slowking! Go!'

Phlogi was hurt by its burn!

And now a bit of leaping had to be done. Beedrill weren't the best of things and neither was a Vulpix, so Chuain decided to regroup. Summoning back in a linear formation, he issued a few words to each, knowing that each one took time. He was relieved from the heat of the battle though, though the flames did torch him somewhat. Only a minor annoyance.

"Phlogi, grab a Lum. I'll shutter the flames enough for you to get them, but I'll lose a bit of time. Put it in my mouth, but then waddle a Hypnosis at that fox and try to dodge that bee. Use your motion to dodge his attacks and to get closer to that foul fox of sorts. Lan, Flatter and Helping Hand me up. I do believe it's time."

Having shunted his psychic powers, he listened carefully to the orders of the trainer while he gave his own. That Magnemite would be threatening, mildly. Beedrill would be annoying, going for Phlogi. Hmm. Next round, maybe. And then the Vulpix, the most sinister of them all. They were all so nasty-like, but he would have liked to know them, had they not been under command by this trainer.

Speaking of which, he didn't seem to be particularly malevolent. Were all trainers like this? He certainly couldn't remember his own being so moving and emotional. It sort of stoked his spirit to fight such a persistant enemy. After all, as he focused his mentalities towards fighting, there was a reminder that perhaps he might not get another chance like this. Should it end, could it end, would it end? The trees would be our witness, the air our guide.

And so he planned for the moment for when the Lum took effect and for Lan to use both of her attacks in tandem on her. That'd be the time to focus a psionic attack onto the Magnemite. Or so he hoped.

Vivi stepped up, focussing her own mysterious psionic power on Lancanel. The rabbity pokemon went stiff. Time retreated for her, as for an eternal instant, she saw, smelt, heard, felt, tasted and sensed everything in the known world and beyond all at once. Her young mind teetered under the weight of what she experienced, and she stumbled and ground her face against the dirt, flinching uncontrollably.

Phlogi staggered, the burns scored into his skin searing as the heat of Chuain's prison lanced at him unimpeded. It was too much for him to get close; true to his word, though, Chuain managed to buffet a break in the fire while Vivi concentrated on Lancanel. Phlogi dove through, rummaged about Chuain's supplies, and jammed a Lum berry into his 'trainer's' mouth. Unfortunately, its effect was not immediate; more unfortunately, Vivi was done with Lancanel, and returned her attention to maintaining the fire spin. She reestablished control of the flames easily, and closed them tighter around the pair. Now Phlogi was trapped with Chuain. Job well done. As an added bonus, the distortion of the flames made vision nearly impossible; Phlogi's hypnosis was tossed into the fire, but he had no way of knowing what effect it had had (for the record, it didn't work).

Outside the towering inferno, the magnemite managed to fall on its steely arse again, accomplishing nothing. Lancanel dug herself out of her own senses enough to whistle appreciatively (or an excellent imitation thereof) for Chuain. Through the roar of fire, Chuain heard that, and was heartened. Whether that would be enough was questionable. Finally he felt his muscles unknot, and he reached out with his mind and hammered the recumbent magnemite- not entirely the best decision, as the machine's superior defenses reflected half the power of the blow away. With that blow, Maggie seemed to shake off its fugue. It rose back into the air in a determined way, ready to give a proper accounting of itself.

' Stop! STOP!' Dave yelled at Diedre, as he, recovered from the glowing light and perfectly formed, a vision of entymological precision engineering, circled the ring of fire on sussurating wings, trying to find his intended target through it. ' Just finish off the nidoran!' Dave yelled, and Diedre obliged, driving a lance into her quivering side furiously- one, twice, thrice! And finished off she was.

OOC: Though I would prefer to state my opinions, I don't want to sound like I'm begging for more damage. I just take time to do the various damage calculations, although Legacy can't recognize it. Thanks.

Well, back to square one. He felt genuinely pleased by the outcome, though Lan would have to take some time to recuperate. Her efforts may just be what was needed to win. He faced the grim possiblity of defeat on the other end, which could happen. What could happen to them then? Hardly a moment to worry about that, as the flames licked once more.

The field of grass wasn't strategic enough to be used, as the charred soot around him crumbled into nothingness with the whim of a breeze. But an illusionary tactic added to the flames could perhaps addle them. For it to work, Phlogi had to escape this flame. Now somewhat apt at moving, he focused his mind to clear a path for the Spot Panda.

Phlogi could see the hole opening, so he decided to Teeter Dance his way out of it. He loved to move, to jerk, to undulate, because it meant that he could live without anything to fear, anything to block him from moving. It exemplified an explosion of emotions, rather than unleashing senses on the battlefield, it released happiness, terror, sadness, glory, everything about the nature of life! And of course, pokemon not able to take it in get overwhelmed. Such was the nature of that dance. And then he would dance that dance into a flail of punches on the fox.

As for Chuain, he saw that the veil of fire that covered him also covered his opponent's vision of him(Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should work both ways, if the fire is dense enough to trap me). Perhaps that, in their confused state, could prove to be a hindrance, if he was lucky. Bending down into a prostate position, he felt the flames lick around his crown. It wasn't going to be pleased after this, no matter what happened.

Scanning out, beyond the flames, with those psychic feelers, he focused on the Beedrill. Where was it humming, where was it going to be, how was it, did it like its trainer, why does it exist, who should be its love, should it love, why does it love, when did it take a break, when did it evolve, why did it choose to, why is it here, why is it battling. The questions he poured into the mental note were endless, but only took a second to do, since they were of little complexity. To the mind of a bug, however, whose primary will to live is guided by instinct, higher questions should torment it, for that was one of the ways Psychic attacks work. Some act on the physical, via psychokinesis. The other kind affect the mind, as Vulpix's Extrasensory noted well. This was more of an overload, however, as he directed his abilities to the Beedrill.

In other words, for the mod, Chuain is using the first moment to breach the Fire Spin for Phlogi, then Psychic on Beedrill. Phlogi is Teeter Dancing out into a Dizzy Punch on Vulpix.

Slowking's blast of telekinetic energy had breached the wall of flames. Vulpix seemed surpised that the ring was opened so quickly. From within came a spinning bear that grinned maliciously. Sinister ambitions flowed through his mind as each step caused an image to be swapped in each's creature's mind. Who were they fighting for, who should they attack and who should they defend? Lines were skewed and pictures became blurry in the mind's eye and field vision followed. Teeter Dance's effects had miraculously fallen over each of them. Excluding Spinda, that is. Being of an insane nature and one with the beat has it's own advantages.

Spinda's fist connected with the stomach of the Vulpix who couldn't defend itself in this state. The full force was felt. Vulpix tried to conjure some flames from its mouth to counter-act, but instead swallowed them out of nervousness. Confusion was a harsh mistress.

Slowking wouldn't feel these effects itself. The lock placed on the lumbering Beedrill had confirmed Such an intense psychic attack had found the image of the bee! It froze with both pupils enlarged and mouth agape. It began to twist and turn violently as it thrashed with both lances. One connected to the Vulpix near it, now confused as well, and it's own jaw. What a brilliant left hook!

Beedrill wouldn't dare enter that ring of fire in its right mind. Oh, that's right! CONFUSION. A loud buzzing noise echoed as the bee charged gallantly through the fire spin's reach and lunged for the Slowking. Violet-barbed needle punctured the right arm and forced it into submission for the time being.

Magmemite had somehow seen through the crossed targets and skewed images. However, the ring of fire did hinder its vision. Even a machine wasn't perfect at targetting. A lash of electricity surged through and shocked both friend and foe alike.

Dave, to say the least, was frustrated. "Wake up you guys! WHO'RE YOU HITTING?! You're about as dense as a sack of wet mice, pay attention!" He bared his teeth and reached for a sphere in his pocket. Pokeball shined in the sun's warming rays. Slowking was battered and it suffered from exhaustion. "Ergh, enough of this!"

Of course, Slowking also took some heat since it remained in the fire. Oh, Beedrill did too. Silly little bug.
