"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
A pale light coaxed me from a dark and dreamless sleep. I roused slightly, not wanting to wake and gradually became aware of the dull aches that plagued my stiff joints. Then the clammy sensation of something cool and damp wrapped about my being and I became aware of the thick still air that swept through my nasal passages. Sight came next, but what I saw left me thinking I was in a dream. A milky haze hung in the air all around me, blinding me to anything further. I rolled over onto my side and felt the soft earth beneath me shift with little purchase. It was a moment more before I realized I was lying in tall grass, the roots of which were planted in water laden mud. My clawed hands sank deep into the cool muck as I propped my self up and looked around futilely. The first thoughts to register in my brain were only natural. Where was I? How had I got here? Then I remembered. The last thing I saw was myself swinging a heavy battle axe at some monstrous metallic giant. I was waging war against a tyrant that threatened my refuge away from my true home. Then what had happened? Was the king defeated? And what of the monster? A lump rose at sickening speed from my heart to my throat. Perhaps I was dead. Perhaps the beast had cut me down in those final moments, and I was simply spared the memory of my pathetic demise. Again I looked around. The damp cool air was still and the air carried virtually no sound. This was like no afterlife I had ever been told of. Aches in my sides and shoulders urged me to investigate my being for wounds. At a glance I saw nothing more than deep black bruises. Then I realized something was missing; my .45, my rifle, the helmet I always wore and the computer that kept me in communication with my team. All were gone as if they had never been. Panic swept over me as I realized I was without my favored side arm for the first time. I had never relied on my pokemon as a form of protection, but myself instead. My pokemon were my second thought. I searched my torn flight jacket and found all six pokballs still safely tucked away in the inside breast pocket. One pokeball was still covered in the blood of its occupant. Swallowing hard I removed not it, but another. I triggered the device and the red light from the pokeball lit up the cloudy haze briefly before revealing a plump, furry, green spider in my lap. She was sprawled out with her legs in all directions and ready for a fight. She apparently thought we were still in the midst of battle. I did nothing to convince her otherwise but allowed her to take in the marshy veiled surroundings as I had. Jades tense form relaxed after she glanced about. She turned her black eyes up and met my toothy gaze. I could only shake my head, still just as puzzled as she. A shrill beeping blared abruptly and we both started at the sound. I leaped back and splashed in the mud to get to my feet and sought out the noise. My pack I realized was still on my back. I shook off the soaked, mud covered satchel and found the source of the racket at the bottom. It looked like a blue sports watch, but with a tiny computer screen instead of a clock face. On the screen an animated graphic of the legendary pokemon Celebi winked back at me. A message followed that read, "Welcome to the Opaddeka Region!" For several long moments Jade and I stared at one another. I recalled Celebi, clad in the kings armor blocking the way to the king, but nothing more. Had the legend somehow broke free? Then where was Iand what was Opaddeka? Jade frowned at me. I sighed in agreement. Opaddeka was apparently where we were at, but so far I didnt like what I saw. Turning back to the funny watch thing I sat in the mud and toyed with its keys. A map appeared on the little screen. The land it displayed looked nothing like Legacy. After some cursing I managed to zoom in on the map and saw that my location was marked by a tiny pulsing blip. The blip was in an area called Murmer valley and seemed to be very close to a body of water that was unmarked. To the south of this lake was the nearest town, Mairal District. Well, I whispered aloud to the spinarak, It looks like we can head west until we run into a lake and then follow its shore south, well come out of this fog and close to the nearest town. Jade tilted her head curiously and replied with a soft chirp. We need to get Hawkeye some help. He washurt, in the battle. The spider didnt question my reasoning but could detect the worry in my voice. She climbed to my shoulder and assumed her typical traveling position. I scratched her head affectionately and rose to my bare feet. I sank into the mush and the mud squished up between my clawed toes. The funny watch thing, which I found to be branded a Poketch was soon strapped to my wrist and my filthy pack slung over my shoulders. I took my first step, west toward Malral. A surprised yelp escaped my throat as my foot collided with something heavy and hard. I looked down and saw a large battle axe, as long as I was tall lying on the ground, half hidden in mud, grass and water. I reached down and picked the thing up, recognizing it immediately. For some reason, I had lost my side arms, bestowed to me by my team, but I retained the heavy axe once welded by one of the kings knights. Together, Jade and I had stolen the weapon and now it was all that I had left. Not taking it for granted, I gripped its long handle firmly and slung it over my left shoulder, propping it there for the walk ahead. As you marched onward, the muffled silence started feeling unnatural. It was as if the misty haze was solidifying into claustrophobic walls all around you with no chance of escape. But yet, you were able to walk as freely as you would expect to. Occasionally you did hear the sloshing of something in the muck, and noticed certain bright spots floating within the fog, only to watch them dissipate back into the soupy atmosphere. Out of the corner of your eye, you thought you saw a red glow, though when doing a double take, it disappeared as quickly as it had come. The unyielding fog seemed to be mocking you with illusions. With the axe heavy on your shoulder, maneuvering through the marshland grew laboring and something of a challenge. Mud collected on your shins and dried there, while the soggy ground provided thick resistance for your alien feet. Without warning, your left leg plunged into a thigh-high watery sinkhole. Peering with your Scavian sight, the pool stretched forward quite some way. You couldn't tell how wide it was, but walking around something is always an option, nothing can stretch on forever. |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
Trudging through the marsh proved to be an exhausting ordeal. With a spider on one shoulder and the axe over the other, I stomped through the mud and found the thick muck clinging to my feet like slimy glue. Sweat beaded over my brow and my breath curled out in rasping pants. The mist went on forever and efficiently blocked my view of what may lay ahead. My imagination began playing tricks on me. Half starved and still wounded from battle my mind conjured illusions that pulled my paranoia into full throttle. I shook my head trying to come to my senses. This roused the spider that clung to my neck and her startled squeal caused me to jump with fright. We were now successfully scaring one another. Jade and I groaned in unison at this but carried on. Without warning the consistent plod of my feet sinking a few inches with each step and pulling free again broke pattern. One moment I was shin deep in mud and the next I plunged into nearly waist deep water. I roared and Jade screeched as I lost my balance and splashed face fist into the pool. The commotion that followed involved myself clambering backwards to find semi solid ground. The spider about my neck screamed furiously. Her cries and mine carried over the water logged valley. Her many legs flailed and smacked my face making my effort more cumbersome. More difficult still was swinging the heavy axe about and using it for leverage to heave myself from the watery pit. Only when I was safely back away from the hidden pit fall did I fall to my knees in the filth and breathe deeply. I was now soaked from head to claw and covered with a grey, clay like mud. Long strands of torn grass and reeds wrapped about my being and a film of algae clung close to my skin. There was no doubt in my mind that I looked like some sort axe welding swamp monster with two headsfor Jade too was covered in muck and trying her best to keep her hold on my shoulder. At last I used the long handled axe like a walking stick and pulled myself to my feet. Wiping the film of grime off the screen of the poketech I peered at the blip on the map which was me. I was still going the right direction but I would have to veer off course to get around the poolif it was just a pool. For all I knew it was a stream that assisted in keeping this valley a virtual swamp. For now I would hope that it was a pool that could be walked around. So, using the long end of the axe to prod the squishy ground before me, I pinpointed the shore line of the pit and headed in a southern direction. All the while I kept close watch on the blip on the map to see if this tactic would once again, point me west to Malral. As if having to walk around a big mud-filled lake full of all kinds of nasty...whatever it was, wasn't bad enough. As you were prodding the ground with your axe there was a slight grunt of pain as you prodded once as a small purple figure which looked like just another mound of muck and grime emerged from the ground, eyes appearing within the large mound as they turned toward you. "Grimerrrr..." It growled as if something was saying it while gurgling water. It rose higher and shook the remaining brown muck off of it, looking up at you with a frown. Seems like you woke it up from a nap with all that prodding. ![]() Level 16 32/32 ![]() -Grumpy- |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

Grunting and groaning my displeasure, I used the axe to feel my way around the pool. I backpedaled when the mud I jabbed at grunted right back. Still caked in grime I stared down as the ground at my feet bubbled and sloshed and something rose from its clouded depths. There in the mist, my mud covered form stared in horror as the mud stared right back. Two eyes floated to the surface of the gunk and blinked at me. Perhaps it was my imagination, but the ground didnt seem too happy. SssSorry. I hissed unsteadily at the thing in the water. I had no desire to tangle with phantoms and at the moment, in this fog covered valley, thats exactly what the creature seemed to be. An irritated growl issued from my shoulder. It was Jade. The muddy spider smacked me upside the head with a slim red device. She had fished the Pokedex from the pack on my back. I breathed deeply and nodded to her. She was right. I was quickly losing my nerve in this mysterious place. Accepting the pokdex with my free hand I flipped it open and pointed it to the ground. Grimer, pokemon #088 according to the national registry. A creature found in polluted areas that feeds on filthy things, was the sum of the devices knowledge. It was toxic and not something to be trifled with. Stepping further back I handed the pokdex back to the spider. I felt her dump the contraption back into my satchel. Well, Jade. I said softly. I think its best we get around this creature as quickly as possible. Frighten that thing off with Scary Faceif that doesnt work. Use Psychic to get it out of the way. A chirp came from the spider but she never left my shoulder. Apparently she didnt want to wrestle with the glob down in the mud. She was messy enough already. She contorted her mandible clad face into the most hideous expression she could conjure. Her eyes then glowed faintly as she readied a wave of psychic energy to throw at the beast. I braced my self with the axe, just in case.

Jade's piercing look cut through the bog and cut down the Grimer's speed, which was already horrendously low to begin with. Now Grimer was nothing more than a huge target for Jade's Psychic attack. The attack hit dead on and really left Grimer jarred from it, but he would not stand for this. Grimer retaliated with a Mud-Slap to Jade, that ended up hitting you too. Now you both were left all muddy and looking like some demented version of a Psychopathic Axe-Wielding Alien/Swampthing Serial Killer Thing. Man that was a long name that I just made up. I should consider getting copyright licenceses for it. Now you have been left all muddy and still faced with crossing the pool, which you did make some head way with. However it should be noted that you stopped upon getting mud all over your face. ~~**~*~*~**~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~

The filthy blob wasnt about to give up. It remained even through Jades attacks. To top it off, a thick spray of grey clay mud splattered my exposed teeth and pelted Jade in her face. I spat at the ground, trying to rid my self of the grit on my tongue. I needed to get past this wretched little thing to be on my way. For a moment I was tempted to swing the axe at it. I thought better, deciding it would have no effect on the squishy abomination and prodded Jade to attack again instead. Aight Jade. I hissed irritably. Use Psychic again, but this time try to tear it from its spot and fling it into the deep pool of water were trying to get around. Jade had not enjoyed getting her face all muddied for a second time that day and I could hear the vicious tone at which she agreed with me. The venom in the soft clicking growl from her throat was surprising even to me. Jade was very picky about her appearance and apparently the Grimer had hit a nerve. I could feel the rippling energy in the air as the spider that still perched upon my shoulder whipped up yet another blast of chakra. This time she aimed to rip the messy thing from its muddy hole and hurl it into the pool. Its calm surface could just barely be made out through the dense mist that hung in the still air.

Jade struck again with her psychic attack. By focusing all of her mental prowess, she lifted the purple blob from where it lay and then tossed him into the murky pool of water that you were trying to walk around. This might not have been a good idea, since it was now concealed from your view due to the fog and all of the murky water. This however didn't last long, since only a few seconds later Grimer launched a counter attack in the form of a Mud-Slap once more. This time however, the mud slap had more than just mud. It also had twigs, vines, algea, and a couple of lillipads that where on the water. Both you and Jade were hit once more and well let's just say that you really don't wanna know what you look like. But just to give you an idea, remember when I said that you looked like a Psychopathic Axe-Wielding Alien/Swampthing Serial Killer Thing, well I take it back. The Grimer plunged into the water and promptly sprayed both myself and Jade with an array of junk from the pond. If we didnt look bad enough before, we certainly did now. Long strands of plant matter dangled from my arms and mud saturated my torso. A large lily pad lay atop my armored skull like a rather silly hat. I staggered backwards and flung the filth right back at the creaturewhat of it I could scrape off anyway. The lily pad/hat splashed into the water where the beast was last seen, thrown there with as much disdain as I could muster. The spider on my shoulder scrambled about and screamed furiously. She hissed and spat, and no doubt cursed in whatever language furry green spiders spoke. I flailed about and cursed in my own distorted tongue, so she was not alone. Having no other option but to use Psychic again I signaled to Jade. She braced herself and used her Psychic abilities to seek out the Grimer now concealed in the pond and readied to finished it off so that we could continue peacefully toward Malral.

Grimer, in an intense flash of movement, attempted to ooze towards Spinarak. Its grimy fists were raised in the air, prepared to unleash a Pound attack. However, Spinarak had plenty of time to prepare. As Grimer edged closer, Spinarak just looked stoically on, finally unleashing its psychic attack, smashing Grimer down into the depths of the marsh. After a quick splash, ripples spread all over the pond. After a few short moments, it was obvious that the Grimer was not going to emerge from the pond again, having fainted. In fact, even finding its body would have proven difficult, since it was hardly different from the ooze of the swamp. Spinarak looked a bit relieved at finishing the battle, and also happy that it gained 0.9 .

The victory was hollow as silence dominated the muddy field beside the pool. Jade and I stared intently into the murky depths of the pond, waiting for any sign of movement. Only when it was obvious the Grimer would not rise again did we relax and breathe easy. I could hear Jades soft panting close to my ear. The spat with the slimy creature had left her winded and flustered. I could see her picking impetuously at the mud that clung to her downy sides. Looking down at myself I saw I looked no better, but there was nothing to be done about it. Dont worry, Jade. I hissed soothingly to the spider. Once were at the lakkewell clean up before going into town. Jade issued a soft whine that sounded like air leaking from a tire. I chuckled and scratched her muddy chin. I received a gentle nip from her mandibles in return. Hefting the axe in both hands I looked about me. The fog had not lifted, or even stirred. The thick curtain hung in the air preventing us from seeing much more than a few feet away. With a thick splash the long end of the axe handle plunged into the soggy earth. I began prodding the ground once more, seeking out the invincible edge of the pool. As you prod around to find the invisible edge to the pool, a haunting sound fills the air, the echoes of a Hoo Hoo bouncing and reverberating through the area, almost like it was coming from all directions. However, the source of the sound, a Hoothoot could be found atop one of the deadened trees that filled the marsh. It looked down at the strange sight for a few seconds, hooting softly to itself before closing its eyes and puffing itself up without a care. It was in the middle of one of the sinkholes and it knew anything that came after it would eventually be swallowed up by the marsh itself. Soon your axe finds the side of the sink hole, allowing you to travel around it, albeit slowly. Who knows when the loamy ground will give away without warning? | |||||||||||||||

((Sorry to cut you off, but I wanna plant this NPC here in Murmur Valley. And I really want to give it to Mav =P)) The Hoot-Hoot's menacing eyes glowed like a lighthouse beckoning to lost sailors. The biological beacon graciously gave you a point of reference to base your location off of, making it fourteen times easier to navigate through the dense murk. Continuing around the vast sinkhole, you felt the ax in your grasp jerk a little. It seemed to be caught in the mud and you tried to yank it out, but to no avail. You pulled harder, bracing yourself against the unstable clay beneath your feet. Suddenly, it pulled back, sinking farther into the muck. Flabbergasted, you do the only logical thing, pull even harder. You felt a shove, and almost immediately after the sensation, you had a face-full of mud, as if it couldn't get any worse. You heard a malicious cackling laugh. It seemed to come from nowhere, and everywhere, all at the same time. Standing upright again, you felt the tense hold on your ax loosen, and you were able to wrench it from the ground again. "Having a bit of trouble are we?" Said a voice that matched the laugh. Your Scavian vision scanned the area, trying to seek out the source of the voice. Hazily, someone approached through the fog. His features were strange, lucid and not entirely discernible, as if he were made up of the fog enveloping him. His face and hands seemed to ripple like a soft breeze disturbing the fog, ((It is so hard to use any word besides "fog" and get the same meaning out.)) though you could still make out his appearance. He had straight, yet messy, blood-red hair that fell over his eyes and past his chin, obstructing part of his face. A sinister scheming simper ((good alliteration =D)) was plastered on his face, teeth-bearing, though still dwarfed by your own permanent grimace. His skin complexion changed with the fog, sometimes ghostly light, and at other times, deep-tanned. Despite his grubby visage, he was very well dressed. He wore a black suit with a white tie, which bore a ruby encrusted gold tie-tack. It was graceful how he was able to glide through the marshland effortlessly, while you had trouble keeping your balance in certain parts. "Hello puppet." He said, his eyes scrutinizing your alien body. ((Please excuse the Pirates of the Caribbean reference, it's 1:22am, and my mind isn't at it's greatest working condition.)) "I guess it'd be polite to introduce myself to you. Call me Loki..." He said, with yet another cackle. |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
I stumbled backwards as the axe was freed from the mud. The tug of war with the muck had me thinking my mind was playing tricks on me. First there had been the shimmering lights that flickered in and out of the mist and now this? I was losing my mind in this place and was beginning to wonder if it ever had an end. According to the Poketech on my wrist which my irritated glance frequented, I was on the edge of the swamp, and very nearly to the lake, yet the cool moist haze that hung in the air like the breath of the dead showed no signs of breaking up and freeing me of its hold. A cackle broke through the tense silence and I jerked backwards and away from the malicious sound. A snarl twitched at the corners of my bared fangs and I hissed at the unseen thing that taunted me. The spider on my shoulder gripped tighter and I felt her warm breath quicken and grace my muddied cheek. Having a bit of trouble are we? I heard the thing catcall. A growl rose to my throat and I searched the swirling mist for the thing that toyed with my sanity. Already, I was convinced that it could not be human. With my paranoia at full throttle and my superstitious self drawing off my wild imagination, I envisioned some demon lurking somewhere in the endless grey. I was not disappointed. Like a vid of a torch being extinguished but played in reverse, a flaming head of hair rippled from the shadows and emerged from the fog. His blunt white teeth gleamed past his ragged mane and an insincere grin likened to only that of my twisted brothers played across his maniacal features. Like a chameleon he seemed to shift and merge with the mist, as if it were apart of him. Yet, out of all these things, what assured me that my senses were lost to hell itself was that the demon wore the most striking of suits and moved with the clean fluidity of an autumn breeze at dusk. My empty stomach writhed at the sight of him and I could not convince my dry tongue to speak. Hello puppet. The demon spoke with a frightening gleam in its eye that seemed to dissect me down to the marrow. I guess it'd be polite to introduce myself to you. Call me Loki... He laughed again and something inside me lit up. It called itself Loki, but I knew it by another name. The translation of which could only come as close as Devil. This was further proof I had lost my mind. How could a nightmare legend from the Scavian home world of Sordia make its way here? The old tales of the demon that lurked in the mangrove swamps outside of the great capital city were told to every childespecially the naughty ones that liked to sneak off in the night to hunt with their brother against their guardians wishes. YesMorgan had told Lloyd and me that tale many times. The old General had always been so sincere and his reverence for the mythical beast, honest. It could not be the same demon though, unless my tortured mind had dredged up some illusion from my past. In any casewhy should a Scavian legend appear in the visage of a humanthe most loathsome of creatures I had yet to meet during my brief days among the stars. I shifted restlessly from one foot to the other and slung the great axe over my left shoulder. Jade rested stark still on her perch. Her wide staring eyes, like glittering coals, never once left our new acquaintance. I offered the thing a low grunt to acknowledge that he had spoke. One thing I remembered well from the tales the old man had told was that meeting with the Devil of the Mangrove indicated dark times ahead. I did not know the ways of the spirits as Morgan always claimed too. My reverence was interpreted as fear. I knew they existed and I knew I wanted no part of them. There was little I could do if they sought me out though and this one had. I lowered my gaunt boney skull and stared at the mud that gathered and pooled around my bare feet. I was not a gambling man, and dealing with the Devil was gambling. I looked up again, my grimace an obvious frown. I quelled my fear and took a single, labored step through the mud toward the apparition. I am Floyd. I spoke, barely above a whisper for fear of breaking the sanctity of this hallowed foggy clearing. I refrained from replying to the things question. My trouble was no business if its, for surely that would spark the light of a path I did not wish to take. Jade shifted slightly on my shoulder and I tilted my head in favor of her warm furry body. I waited silently, watching the thing for its reply. I did not trust it due to the old tales of the demon it reminded me of. At lastwanting this encounter to be over, I spoke. What business have you with me? My rasping grating question was spoken in my native Scavian tongue, not English. If the creature understood it would only verify my speculations. "He speaks in tongues." The ghostly man enounced. "I'll have you know that I come from a place that is beyond the world as you know it. I normally refrain from disclosing this information to people, but since you test me with these exotic words, I guess I can trust you with this knowledge." He paused for a second. "I come from, as best I can put it, the astral plane of existance. Beings in such realm have a much more vast knowledge than mortals do. To put it simply, I understood every word you said." He finished menacingly. A man clad in clothes as valuable as a king's would surely have important, serious business matters to deal with you. But his answer wasn't that satisfying. "The business I have with you is merely for my own entertainment." He said as his hair waved in a soft breeze that also made his complexion ripple with the fog. His toothy smirk shimmered mockingly, as if it knew it bothered you. This man could obviously care less about you and your troubles. "Though don't think that you receive nothing besides the satisfaction of amusing me." He assured. "I'm here to make a deal with you." As if he could read your mind. "I could toy with your mind longer, but I like your spunk so I'll cut to the chase. I want you to humor me in combat. Win and you receive a safe passage through this trecherous bog, lose, and you get no help at all." Whether the fog was playing tricks on your eyes again, or not, the air around Loki seemed to grow darker and his white tie and grin, brighter. The image was overwhelmingly portentous. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
The thing had understoodI felt myself cringe. I had actually held out a sliver of hope that he could not. The creatures explanation for its existence only confirmed that the old Generals tales were true. This thing could very well be the same Demon that Morgan warned us of. The one that roamed the Scavian swamps. Perhaps not the sameperhaps it was just of the same ilk. Either way I didnt like it. I shifted uneasily in my spot and could sense Jade becoming restless on my shoulder. She liked this Loki no better than I. Ive no need of your help demon. I spat back at the abomination. Im nearly out of the swamp anyway. I paused and tilted my head up at the wrath hungrily. However, Im damned to die on this rock anyway, what difference will it make if its now, wondering lost in this marsh, or next week on the street of Mairal! I splashed a few steps closer to the thing that tore at my pride. It seemed hopelessly true that never again would I see my brother who this things temperament reminded me of. Saliva slung from my filthy jowls in long sticky strands as my temper seethed. The creature could strike a nerve as easily as my brother, and I felt myself give into its vicious manner of persuasion just I had given into Lloyds fowl goading thousands of times before. Perhaps it was the slight resemblance to my brother that broke my word of caution. The suit and tie, the wicked grin that could break glass, and the less than sane daring that only the over confidant had. Pride that came from knowing you would only ever be bested if you first allowed it to happen. You may have your battle Demon. I consented with a hint of spite. I knew there was no point in running from spirits. The physical world was no match for them, and when a Scavian couldnt run to save his life, he fought like a cornered animal. It was something I found myself doing more and more often. The reckless behavior was fast becoming a habit, and again I threw caution to the wind. I withdrew a pokeball from my muddied flight jacket. The caked grey clay that clung to the synthetic leather broke off in chunks where it had dried. I tapped a button on the sphere and the red light from the ball lit up the grey fog with a rose colored hue. At my feet my long time companion, Hawkeye, now stood in the reeds that grew tall enough that he was nearly concealed. The croc looked about and tested his new environment. The visibility was low but otherwise he found it much to his liking. His webbed feet shuffled easily through the slick mud and his eyes at last found the malicious spirit with whom he would battle. With his own instincts he knew something wasnt quite right about Loki and he threw a curious look over his blue scaled shoulder to me. Hawkeye, I addressed the Totodile with a calm that came only with my determined foolishness. Todayyou fight the Devil himself. The reptiles eyes flew wide, wondering if he had heard me right. My stern grimace told him I was not joking. It would be best not to trust your eyes today. I warned coolly before lifting my toothy muzzle to Loki. Hawkeye returned his gaze to his strange opponent as well and I gave the demon a sharp nod to signify that I was ready. A song I heard on the radio came to mind as I waited less than patiently for Lokis next movesomething about a boy name Johnny betting his soul for a golden fiddle. Something told me I wouldnt make out in this deal as well as the cocky young man in the ballad had. Now you play a pretty good fiddle boy But give the devil his due I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'Cause I think I'm better than you."

((This is gunna be short, my friend's about to pick me up, and I'm a little brain-dead at the current moment, aaaand I want you to continue, so bear with me.)) Loki raised an eyebrow and smirked a devilish grin, something that made your current position not so comfortable anymore if it was at all to begin with. "You brandish this Pokemon as if it has home-field advantage." Said the Norse devil. "But we need to think about who really possesses the upper-hand." His cackle ((wish I could find a better term for that...)) pierced through the dense air, making you cringe a little. "Come on out to play, Hugin." He said beckoningly. Then, as if to add to the discomfort, Loki stepped backwards into the fog, his features fading away, as did his silhouette. Now you couldn't even see your opponent. Though in his place, a Gastly appeared as if spawned by the fog itself. Loki's voice then rang clearly for seemingly nowhere. "You're lucky I like you, I'll let you make the first move." The Gastly brandished his tongue mockingly, its mouth disporting a grimace not unlike Loki's ![]() Hugin Level 15 30/30VS

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

A ghost type! My mind howled with alarm as the demon receded into its element and the Ghastly emerged in its stead. My stomach lurched and I swallowed hard. The crazed phantom was rightThe marsh might be to Hawkeyes liking but he couldnt best a spook physically any more than I could. Hawkeye, old friend. I thought grimly, Those fangs of yours will do you no good here. At my feet Hawkeye was peering through the cattails at the Ghastly who hovered above the marsh just beyond. Though he had never before encountered a ghost type, his experience was not so little that he didnt know to expect the unexpected. He took a deep breath and awaited orders. Hawkeye rarely improvised in battle, he was not trained to. He followed orders to the T, good or bad. As a starter pokemon it was in his blood to trust his trainer, and if his trainers command failed, so did he. That same disadvantage could easily be reversed though, if the trainer was sharp enough. The croc was quick on his feet and could keep up with any feasible command directed of him. If his trainer could see it, and somehow convey his wishes in time, Hawkeye could undoubtedly pull it off. That did not mean that even the best of plans couldnt fail. Hawkeye, as stated before, simply followed orders. He could no more predict what his opponent would do than his trainer. Even if he could see what would happen to him, he wouldnt turn away unless ordered. Hawkeyes strict, single minded training swung both ways. I knelt down, resting one knee on the water laden earth for semi-comfortable support. I crouched low enough for the tall reeds to brush my boney cheeks. I was nearly snout to snout with my first pokemon. Jade rested on my shoulder but remained remarkably still. The usually whiny spider was too wary of the stranger to bring attention to herself. For a moment I looked deep into the Totodiles large reptilian eyes. Liquid and trusting, the red irises returned my stare briefly before Hawkeye turned back to watch his newest opponent. Hawkeyes success would rely on my 'eyes' and my perception, not his. I fully expected the ghost to pull every dirty trick in the book and then some. I also suspected the ghost would vanish into the fog as its owner had, attacking from any direction it chose and entirely undetectable. Though I was sure a ghost pokemon was capable of physical attacks, I doubted it relied on them. Being an ethereal creature, it would probably use tactics to match. Jade came to mind then. She made up for her slow and rotund form by using her psychic gifts. The little spider could fight quite dirty if she wished. Knowing what she was capable of, I expected far worse from Loki. Remaining in my kneeling position in the mud, I cleared my thoughts and took a deep breath. Unlike my pokemon, my sight did not rely on eyes. I was hardwired to use my other, more enhanced senses to perceive my environment. It was this, and a bit of luck, that I would have no choice but to draw off of now, if Hawkeye was to ever land a blow. Calming my rattled nerves, I tried to forget about the wrath we faced and less than adequate stakes. I concentrated solely on mapping out my surroundingsevery black and white rock, or weed that I could fully grasp. Then reached out and located Hawkeye, myself and whatever else I was capable of on the field (Floyd might be able to detect the spook if it makes noise or its movements/actions change the air pressure around it enough to draw his attention). After meditating briefly I spoke to Hawkeye. It was the most logical move the croc could make. Blizzard. I said simply. The wide ranged non-physical attack would provoke a response from our unearthly opponent, a response that would let us better judge his tactics. The crocs eyes blazed and his nostrils flared. He inhaled deeply while puffing out his chest and drew on powers so un-natural that I couldnt fathom. When his jaws flew open, a furious torrent of wind and ice blasted from his throat and barreled across the marsh. I sat as calmly as could be expected. It was crucial that I maintain my state of awareness and watch for any sign or clue that could aid my pokemon. ![]() Hugin Level 15 30/30VS

The icy blast screamed through the hazy atmosphere, careening off the gaseous ghost's anti-skin, damaging it heavily. Without a sound, it disappeared, rendering your predictions haplessly true. For a few seconds, there was nothing but tension around you, it seeped into your mind and made time stand still. What was approximately ten seconds felt like a few minutes, until the Gastly finally reappeared ambushing your unsuspecting Pokemon. It lashed it's tongue across Hawkeye's back, caking it in ectoplasmic saliva. Whether it was such a substance that had a side effect, or from shock and fear, Hawkeye quite unfortunately seemed to have lost mobility. It stood there, maw agape and eyes wide, uttering small noises as it struggled to regain motion. Cue Loki's evil laughter. ![]() Hugin Level 15 13/30 VS

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
Glowering at the ghost pokemon, I remained as still as my friend. Hawkeye stood in his place in the reeds, trembling slightly but unable to coax himself into moving. The Ghastly had run its ethereal tongue across his scaly back and left him shivering in the still, foggy air. I had half expected such a dirty tactic, and only because of my pessimistic inclination was I able to hold my anger at bay. I took a deep breath and pushed the cluttering thoughts, brought on by fear and frustration, to the farthest boundaries of my mind. My left hand firmly gripped the axe handle, using it for balance and support while I knelt on one knee in the quagmire. I solemnly studied Hawkeyes quivering back and casually gazed past him to the ghost beyond. I separated myself from the scene, distancing myself enough to keep my awareness open, and searched for anything that could give my friend an edge. Quickly, my mind turned over possibilities. The ghost had paralyzed Hawkeye, rendering him still as a statue and open for attack. It was possible then, that Lokis tactic was not overwhelming damage as mine was, but incapacitating his opponent, leaving him free to toy with them at leisure. The thought seemed to fit my demonic foe. It explained his confidence and arrogant pride. The question was how to get around it? I wasnt adept at being underhanded, and often slow to devise plans. Time was not something that was on my side just then. I pushed forward through the obvious obstacles and concentrated on what I knew. If Loki was trying to render Hawkeye defenseless, he wasnt through. He could only accomplish that by A light bulb flickered on in my mind. Hawkeye, close your eyes. If you can do nothing else, close your eyes and hold them shut. Keep your position and let the ghost come to you. It was the most logical direction I could conjure. The only way Hawkeye could keep fighting was if he was still awake to do it, and the only way to fully render Hawkeye incapable of fighting was to put him to sleep. I knew of two attacks that could accomplish this, and ruled the less likely out. If Loki wanted to put Hawkeye to sleep, he would use hypnosis. If Hawkeye kept his eyes shut, he reduced his chances of the probable attack working. Under normal circumstances, closing his eyes would seem foolish. However, Hawkeye had no chance of seeing his opponent when attacked anyway. It was the best I could manage for now. Try to calm down and close your eyes, I repeated. Take a deep breath and blast the field before you again with Blizzard. The move took little movement and was a broad range attack. It was still Hawkeyes best chance of hitting the Ghastly. I watched my pokemon struggle to oblige and searched the area for Loki. Though he still chose to remain hidden in the swirling mists, his over confidant laughter assured me that he was still before us. ![]() Hugin Level 15 13/30 VS

*Sorry Mav... nobody wanted to mod Loki, so i guess I will, lol* Hugin was in complete controle, or so it would seem. The area around the battle grew dark and eerie, like something out of one of the old horror movies. Gastly was using a Night Shade technique on the paralyzed croc. Totodile, wincing in pain from the ghost maneuver, attempted to use its Blizzard attack. However, due to the immobilization of its body, along with the ghosts attack, the attempt ended in failure. Cue Loki's evil laughter again. Hugin ![]() level 15 13/30 vs Hawkeye ![]() level 16 15/30 *paralyzed* |

Growling my frustration, I knew I could no longer allow Hawkeye to take a beating. The demon would, no doubt, relish an early victory in seeing his withdrawal. I pulled a new pokeball from my jacket, the one that held Lex, my Yanma. In unison, I tapped both hers and Hawkeyes pokballs, returning the paralyzed croc and allowing the fidgety dragon fly to escape. Lex flashed into the foggy air and circled the immediate area in one quick single lap before laying eyes on the Ghastly. Use your quick attack to out maneuver that ghost, then hit it with Hypnosis! I called out. Without hesitation the dragon fly launched herself toward her foe. I could hear Jade muttering with disdain at the speedy bug. She truly loathed the insect that often stole my affections from her. I remained crouched on the ground, waiting anxiously. ![]() Hugin Level 15 13/30 VS

I Am The Coolest Person And You Should All Know It
|
Now now now Floydie You should know better than to have challenged me with such weak pokemon. At this rate itll take you the rest of your life just to make it out of this swamp. Loki quickly said before cackling once more. Lokis earsplitting, high-pitched cackle, echoed throughout the marsh. Your vision was suddenly overloaded thanks to this, almost psychopathic laughter. This sound, didnt come from just the direction you where facing as you would expect, instead, it seemed like it came from every humanly possible direction. Thanks to this, you could see the entire battlefield, and most of the surrounding area thanks to the amount of sound, even the gaseous Ghastly became as clear as daylight to you; however this also had its consequences. As you looked around you, you could not locate Loki, instead you only managed to catch his silhouette appearing and disappearing, all around you, almost like a ghost. It would seem that the Norse God of Mischief likes to use his powers a little too much. The red beam of energy that emerged from your pokeball soon encompassed Hawkeye and recalled him into it. Just as quickly, the mass of energy that appeared from your other pokeball, quickly solidified into your Yamna, Lex. Lex hovered erratically through the area as she gained her bearings and dealt with the fact that it got scarred shitless by Lokis laugh. That laugh could wake the dead if there was any around here. Hugin, why dont you give that Yamna a little kiss? And do make it a French Tongue Kiss will ya? Lokis annoying voice said to his Ghastly. Hugin didnt waste any time and took the opportunity given by your switching, and gave Lex a good licking with its long wet tongue. For the record, that will be one kiss that Lex will want to forget, and probably wont manage to accomplish it. Luckily for Lex, it didnt do as much damage as Loki wouldve liked, and she managed to avoid getting paralyzed by the attack. Hmph Loki grunted, slightly annoyed. Hugin, give Lex a taste of your Night Shade. He hollered to his pokemon. The purple gaseous blob eyes began glowing with an ominous purple glow as the surrounding fog began turning darker than night. The fog began moving toward the dragonfly pokemon in an attempt to cover her from head to tail, only to fail. Lexs wings quickly sprung to life and boosted her straight through the dark mass of energy straight through the ghost pokemon. She shouldve done her research, that attack couldnt harm a ghost, then again its not like it was indented for that. Hugin quickly turned around to face his opponent only to end up gazing straight into Lexs eyes, and her Hypnosis attack. In a flash, the purple gaseous ghost pokemon began to float motionless in mid air asleep. Loki raised his eyebrow from behind the fog, slightly amused from your tactics, but it wasnt enough to get him to stop torturing you in some cruel way, and the idea that popped into his head just now, is a real cruel one. Well, what do you know? You do have some surprises left in you dont you Floyd? But, this isnt all you can give is it? Maybe if you where fighting someone else you could concentrate a little more He cackled softly, and in mid cackle, his voice began to change into one that you recognized. A voice that you have not heard in a while. right? Floyd old pal? He said as he emerged from the shadows, in a new form. Loki stepped out from behind the fog and showed his new form to you. The face that he chose to bear was one that you had seen for a good part of your journey. His blonde spiky hair, the black leather jacket and pants, those green eyes, that scar across his left eye and that unmistakable smirk. Yes, Loki had just taken the form of your old friend Angel. Tell me Floyd, how long has it been since you saw this face? The face of your dear old friend Angel? A few weeks? A month? Well, it doesnt really matter, does it Floyd? But, Im sure that you would like to see him once more, right? Loki smirked as he looked straight at you. The god of mischief has a sick sense of humor, and it shows. Now you would have to face your old comrade in this decisive duel. Well just because Im feeling rather generous today, if you manage to beat me, not only will I let you pass, but I could tell you where your old friend is. Then again, you're struggling just to beat my first pokemon, so chances of you actually making it out of here and meeting up with your old friend are next to none. Said Loki, before his fiendish cackling once more echoed across the thick fog. ~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~**~*~* ![]() Hugin Level 15 13/30 [Asleep] VS

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

I glared across the hazy field with rising anger. Even though I had expected it, the stab at my capabilities stung. It came with a surge of satisfaction to see that my beloved Lex not only fought off the same attack that paralyzed Hawkeye, but had left the Demons own pokemon drifting on the fog, sound asleep. Thats showin em. I praised the able bug silently. What happened as a result of this slight bit of luck, left me quaking with furry. The Demon had the gal to step forth from the shadows and taunt me with the image my lost friend, the friend I had given up for dead. It was on a return trip to Everberry, conducting a mission for a team I would never see again, that I lost sight of my vain human companion. The blonde man never showed up in town as I expected, nor had I run across him when my mission was complete and I was free to return to Synthesis. It was as if he had vanished into thin air. I blamed myself for his loss, so confidant was I that some great calamity had befallen him. The Demon had gone too far. I rose to my feet, sleuthing off a layer of thick mud and stood my ground. A low growl rose from my throat and I spat a vengeful hiss at the mockery before me. My friend had been wronged enough by my own neglect; I would not allow this wrath to ruin the mans dignity as well. Say what you like Demon. I scoffed. I am not battling you for favors. After a moments hesitation I added, Take whatever form you like. Angel would not wear such a hateful grin. Your disguise is flawed. Snapping my head away from Loki, I returned my attention to the Yanma who buzzed about anxiously, awaiting orders. She was high strung and aiming to please. The demons words were not lost on her though. Shes knew Angel as well as I. It was the mans own clever tactics that had lured her close enough to chance our meeting. She saw through the fraud and her wings beat harder with a malice all her own. She too had thought of the human as a friend and seeing her opponent using her Masters companion as leverage angered her. Stike it down with Wing Attack! I hissed, giving the bug voice to her own thoughts as well as a means to vent her fury. Lex launched herself through the air toward the sleeping Gastly, splitting the fog in long curling wisps that trailed far behind her. ![]() Hugin Level 15 13/30 [Asleep] VS

*I'm not sure if Angel has taken over for Blake, but he hasn't posted, so I'll try not to disappoint.* Your Yanma took to the air, flapping its wings like an overlysized humingbird. The sleeping Gastly could do little to stop the attack, as the gust collided with its gasious body. Hugin had been defeated by some stroke of luck. (Yanma and Totodile get .5 :exp) Loki and his demeanor changed. He seemed a bit angered at the loss of his ghost. The cackling stopped, and his form retreated back to hsi original self. He returned hsi pokemon, and glared at you with utmost hatred, as if he wanted to rip your heart out and feed it to you on a ceramic plate. Without warning, he began to chuckle to himself. It slowly rose to his usual cackle. He was laughing, but for what? All would soon become clear. 'Congratulations, you've managed to defeat Hugin, just one of my pokemon. Now, I would like to introduce you to Munin, buahahaaha!' In a flash of light appeared Munin... yet another Gastly. It would seem you were in for the same Nightmare as with its mate. ((You cheated me of some exp Jolty dear. It's 1.5 the normal amount unless they've changed it for NPCs. So .8 each.)) With a sharp flick of my tail I sent broken bits of dried clay back into the marsh. The muck that coated my hide was starting to dry and itch uncomfortably. I shifted from foot to foot on the wet soggy earth and only faintly heard the bubbling that rose from the water soaked sod. The ghost fell and I nearly leapt with joy. An obvious grin swept across my boney cheeks but was just as quickly wiped clean. The demon had his way of ruining my small victory by whipping out a second Gastly with a sardonic sneer that churned the bile in my empty stomach. One Gastly was down but how many more spooks did he have up his sleeve? I clenched my muddy fists but held my temper in check. My clawed hand gripped the axe handle tightly, revealing my anxious mood through the tense white across my knuckles. Lokis burst of anger was proof enough that he wasnt invincible and certainly hadnt expected to lose Hugin at all. I nodded urgently toward the Yanma. She flitted eagerly about in the haze and knew what I had in mind. She knew from experience that if I found something that worked, I stuck with it. Without being asked she darted forward, faster than before because of her ability, and flashed the newly summoned Gastly with the same mesmerizing look as she had its predecessor. I held my breath, knowing it would be luck, even with her blinding speed, if the trick were to work twice. The spider on my shoulder relayed her own tension by gripping more firmly when the Yanma burst forth through the fog. I heard her tiny inhalation as a soft gasp, which surprised me. Jade, for all her jealousy of Lex, seemed to be rooting for her rival to succeed. I realized then, that even though they held petty squabbles for my attention, they could come together silently as team mates in the heat of battle. It was in times like these that they could put aside their differences and focus on a common goal. I fully expected the two to go back to fussing and snapping at one another at the conclusion of this ordealif there was one. For all I knew Lokis foul trick was not to leave me wondering in the fog for all eternity but to leave me in the throws of an endless battle until I died from frustration. *Sorry about that. I suck. I will try to speed this thing up for you... you have been battling for quite a while.* As your bug sped through the damp air, it was clear who had the advantage. Yanma was beginning to become quicker than even Loki had anticipated. It dove into battle yet again against the ghost (although its a different one, still a ghost) and used its Hypnosis. Rather, it tried to. Munin faded away before the Hypnosis had a chance to take effect on the ghost. 'Wonderful Munin. Retaliate by ensnaring this wretched bug.' The loyal ghost shimmered as its eyes became hypnotic vigments of Yanmas imagination. Your bug had been Mean Look'd, and retreating from battle was now not an option. Lex hovered for only a moment after locking eyes with the ghost. Retreating was the last thing on her mind. The great lump in my stomach turned over and jumped for my throat. Now was no time for my pretty bug to lose her grip - Loki had a plan. Endeavoring to keep my control I leaned hard on the battle axe for support and clenched my jaw. Jade gripped my shoulder tighter in like anticipation. If Lex was to come out of this one, she needed my help. I couldnt let her down now. Quickly Lex! I urged when I caught the ghosts tense stare. Nows your chance! The hyped up bug was steadily growing antsier, her speed building with each breath. She had to use it to her advantage while she still could. With blinding speed the massive dragon fly seemed to vanish into the thin air, faster than even my alien sight could follow. She had pinpointed the ghost before her while it still glared at her with bone chilling hate. The only indication she had once hovered in the still air was the faintly disturbed area of fog, now churning like frenzied smoke and leaving a rapidly spiraling trail of mist behind her. She locked eyes with her glaring target, her determination now expressed through the furious pumping of her translucent wings. Munin level 15 30/30VS

Yanma was getting quicker and quicker with each passing second. Loki, in all reality, was expecting your bug to slow down a bit as the battle went on. This obviously wasn't the case. Lex appeared directly in front of Munin, and began to use its Hyptotize ability. At such a close range, even for a ghost pokemon, it had no choice but to fall victim to its effect. Loki was quite angered, and began to yell obscenities at his ghost, ordering him to wake up. His pleas fell on deaf ears, however, and it seemed as though you had the upper hand. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

Leaning hard on the axe, I nearly toppled into the muck from excitement. Lex had beaten the ghost to the punch. Even Jade seemed to jump slightly when the huge flying bug made a blurred round about her opponent in celebration. Quickly, I began to formulate a plan. Lex had one clear chance to strike the Gastly unimpeded, and the ghost type was tougher than she. It was doubtful that a single attack could ever hope to knock it out of the fight. How then, could Lex amplify her attack to do more damage? Like a light flickering on, a desperate thought came to me. Her advantage now was her ever increasing speed. Few could match her endurance. Alright, Lex. What youre going to do next is easy enough, but your aim is critical. I said sternly. The fidgety bug nodded vigorously and did another loop around the sleeping ghost. What youll do is climb as high as you dare and then dive at the Gastly with Wing attack. Before you do though, you need to make sure you can see your target through all of this fog. You cant afford to miss. Fly tight circles around the Gastly as fast as you can while you climb, then follow the tunnel of mist down so your aim is true. The bug hovered a moment, blinking curiously while she visualized her task. Then, with a nod of confirmation, she was off! Round and round she went, circling the Gastly and drawing the mist in behind her frenzied wings like a plume. She rose steadily higher, creating a funnel of fog beneath her. When at last she felt she was high enough, she zipped up several more feet before vanishing down the throat of the mist funnel shed created, leading her directly to the Gastly. All her concentration poured into bolting for her opponent and flailing the daylights out of it with her frantically pumping wings. With gravity on her side, a successful strike could deal more damage than a normal, horizontally directed attack. It was her best bet of taking the sleeping pokemon out quickly. Yanma took to the air like a rocket shooting into the sky. Behind it was a clearing left by its speed through the fog. This would act as its vantage point upon its drop back down to earth. Upon reaching a suitable altitude, Yanma plummeted back to the ground, aiming directly at Gastly. The sleeping ghost could do little to defend itself against your bugs boosted attack. In fact, it simply slept... not moving an inch. Finally Yanma collided with Munin, full force, body on body. The plummet form so high causined the force of Yanmas attack to be astounding. It not only woke up Munin, but also knocked it out in the process of the attack (Yanma gains 1.9 :exp). However, due to the reckless drop, Yanma passed straight through the gasious body of Gastly, and hit the ground just as hard as it hit Munin. The recoil damage from hitting the ground at such an incredible speed was devastating, catastrophically so. Both pokemon, Munin and Lex, lay on the ground unconscious. Both had been knocked out in the kamikaze attack. An angered Loki returned his ghost. Without any words he released his next pokemon. The expression on his face lead you to believe that he was beginning to get frustrated. ![]() level 18 36/36 vs ? |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
The shock of the moment seemed to freeze time where I stood. Everything that had to do with Loki was lost to me, muted and drowned out by the sudden alarm that threatened to pull my heart from its hold. Over and over I saw the great insect soar into the whiteout above and vanish, only to come hurtling down again just as I had commanded. Her gravity fed force barreled her narrow girth into the ghost, striking him down as I had dared to hope. My plan had been half cocked though. I had not calculated what would become of Lex whether she had hit or missed her target. She had pulled off the necessary damage all right but she had flung all of her weight into the full throttle attack and had no time to consider pulling up. Nor I had thought to warn her it could happen. I hadnt known. I hadnt thought that far ahead. Like an arrow she plunged herself deep into the mud. Her long narrow body quivered for a moment then went limp as all strength and consciousness fled. The axe in my hand fell to the ground, falling heavily into the tall grass with a soft thump and went unnoticed. I stumbled forward and fell to my knees, grieving as if all were lost. Gently my clawed, trembling hands sank into the soft earth around the Yanma and with some effort pulled her body free of the self made crater. As if I were handling a piece of delicate glass I cradled her with utmost care, sobbing and shaking with worry and grief. My foolishness could have killed her! A soft chirp from my right ear and gentle nudge told me that Jade too was sorry about the accident. Jade though, was staring straight at the Shuppet and knew the battle was not over. I turned my head to join her gaze and saw the strange Ghost type hovering not far beyond, waiting expectantly before its painfully annoyed master. I hung my head and buried my muzzle into the thin, glittering fur that coated Lexs thorax. I smoothed her silky wings and wiped mud from her face. She winced at my touch. It was the first sign that she still lived and breathed. Hope caught in my throat and I hauled myself to my feet with painstaking effort. Lex was no light weight. I stared down at her, ignoring the impatient Loki. Lex was more of a concern to me than him, because I felt no love for him as I did for Lex. In my arms she started to stir, trembling slightly. Hugging the great beast of a dragon fly close, I stumbled backwards, giving room to the battle field that still only hosted Lokis Shuppet. I would not let go of, or return Lex, though I knew I should, and now my arms were too full to reach for a pokeball. Jade filled the gap for me. Her mandible clad head dove into the pack and pulled free the object she sought out. She held out a muddied device and I knew it was Hawkeyes. My thought began to clear as I stared at the sphere; I shook my head, arguing. Hes too weak to fightthe paralyses Jade pushed the ball closer my face and mumbled a determined hiss. She was adamant that the Totodile should fight again. I wasnt so sure. The expression on her face told me that she had something up her sleeve. I consented. Whatever plan she had couldnt possibly be any worse than what I could think up. After all, my last plan had knocked Lex out cold With a nod from me, Jade juggled the pokeball and triggered the device to release the croc. Though he had an opportunity to rest, the paralysis was still obviously with him. Hawkeye tried to relax and not let the spasms in his muscles bother him any more than they already were. Jade returned his empty pokeball to the pack and was just as quick to the start chattering from my shoulder. She was not addressing me. Hawkeye craned his long nose up to stare back at her and gave her an unsure grunt in reply. A long high pitched whine issued from her throat. She sounded as if she was pleading with Hawkeye, begging and trying to be cute to get her way. He snorted and shrugged indifferently, but the playful smile tugging at his toothy jaws told me that he didnt need convincing. Jade squealed with joy and danced enthusiastically on my shoulder, nearly losing her grip. I watched to see what Hawkeye would do. He was staring hard at the Shuppet and considering what Jade had asked. It was a long shot to be sure and he wasnt confidant that he could pull it off but for Jade he would try. Seeing the snotty spider actually beg him for a favor was enough encouragement for him to try anything. He mustered what strength he had left and tried hard to limber himself up for what was likely his last attack in this battle. A Blizzard she had said. She just wanted one final blizzard, as cold and as blustery as he could manage. He shrugged to himself, shaking his head and laughing softly. She was a strange spider but he could see why Floyd loved her so much. She had an endearing quality about her when she wasnt too busy being a brat. So Blizzard it would be granted he didnt choke on it He inhaled deeply and tried to concentrate.

The reappearance of your croc was a bit confusing. No matter. Loki wasn't one to let such chances go to waste. 'Up until now I had taken you for a skilled trainer Floyd. But you have just proved me wrong. It's not everyday that happens. You should be proud.' Loki had obviously gotten his arrogance back. With his cackling laugh, he commanded his ghost. 'Angrboda, use your Night Shade to put that thing done for good.' While your Totodile attempted to use its Blizzard while fighting off the paralysis, Shuppet had already begun its attack. The battlefield became a strange illusion of blue and purple colors. The attack hit Totodile... not physically, but mentally. When the colors faded and the fog returned to normal, your Totodile was left on the ground motionless. The combination of the paralysis and Night Shade was too much to overocme, it would seem. ![]() level 18 36/36 vs ?? ![]() *KO* |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
Jade seemed confidant enough, even when it was obvious that Hawkeye was doomed to failure. I was annoyed that she would insist on such a thing but I had agreed to it, more out of curiosity than anything. Few would trust their pokemon to call the shots, but Jade was more than just a pokemon in my eyes. She was an equal. I watched helplessly as the Totodile struggled with his attack. Jade was not watching Hawkeye though. Her spindly legs gripped tightly to my shoulder as if ready to pounce. It wasnt far from the truth. She had hoped Hawkeye could pull off the attack. The distraction would make her task easier, but that was not why she specifically requested the injured croc to come to her aid. She was using him as a pawn, and my later realization of this left me appalled. She anxiously watched for the Shuppets attack and when it was obviously underway, Jade was preparing herself. Before Hawkeye could even hit the ground her eyes were aglow with cosmic fury. She was springing at the Shuppet, attacking her preoccupied opponent even as I struggled to return Hawkeye to his pokeball. Jade was playing dirty. She had successfully lulled Loki into giving her the opening she so desperately needed. The Shuppet would be open for attack as the spider followed suit so hot on its heels. The clever spider leapt from my shoulder with the unexpected muscle only spiders were capable. She was like a furry green cannonball flying through the air; a cannon ball that aimed to impale her surprised target on the poisoned stinger on top of her head. Jade combined the normally weak poison attack with the ferocity of her well honed psychic power to pierce the ghosts substance. In essence, Jade was attempting a poison sting, coupled with her Psychic powers to make a more devastating assault. A flow of energized toxins would enter the pokmons system, draining it both mentally and physically. Additionally, it would possibly leave it more susceptible to the poison. I recognized Jades underhanded maneuver as both well organized and risky. Should the plan fail it would be she who was open for attack, having brought herself so close to the ghost. Jade curled up into a tight ball for her hard landing on the ground following her attack. She wanted to be ready to bounce back into a defensive stance as quickly as she could. Still, I did not approve of her methods. Using Hawkeye as bait was not acceptable. I would be having a long talk with her later. However, Hawkeye was clearly down and out of the game by the time Jade struck the ghost. It was a game of timing and Jade used her constant presence on the side lines to her advantage. In the spiders mind, it was no dirtier than using illusions and lies to shatter your opponents nerves. Jade had no qualms about sinking to Lokis level. She had her own vendetta.

Before Shuppet could follow what was happening, Jade had lept in for the attack. The ghost had just finished disposing of Totodile, now it was being attacked itself. Loki gasped at the spider as it dove into the fray. Normally this was a tactic that he himself would use, but it would seem that tables had been turned. Loki commanded the first thing that came into his mind. 'Angrboda, use your Screech to break its concentration, now!' It was too late. Jade had already penetrated the gassious body of the ghost pokemon with its Poison Sting enhanced by the Psychic attack. The ghost yelled in pain, almost matching a Screech attack in volume. It fell to the gorund with your spider on top of it, still with its stinger in the opponent, making sure the poison was sent through its body. It wasn't needed though. Shuppet couldn't continue. 'Enough!' Loki screamed. He returned his pokemon and let out a sigh of frustration. To think... he could be defeated on his own turf. Siletly he walked over to you, and with a simple few words, began walking into the fog. 'Follow me.' ~~~~~ Jade gets 1.5 for the win. I am also giving you 3 for having to put up with the length of this, + or -, its up to you. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
((Wee! Thanks for the quick end Jolt. I owe you a beer if I ever see you in town. Negative it is, because Jade is a little crooked. Floyd shall continue on his own because he is going to Malral.))I was still struggling with the overweight Yanma when Jade pulled herself away from the ghost. She shook her head and stretched before throwing a self satisfied snarl at the pokmons owner. I too glared at the red haired demon when I had finally managed to grab hold of Lexs pokeball and return her. Both her device and Hawkeyes found their way safely into my pack as my defeated opponent stalked off, muttering for me to follow. I knelt and offered my cheating arachnid my right shoulder while slinging the muddy axe over the other. Jade crawled to her perch and wore an overly smug expression. I think, I said to my opponent in my own native tongue. That Ill continue on my own. I glanced down at the poktech on my left wrist, worn very much like a sports watch. The little blip on the map warned that I was teasingly close to Malral. I didnt need some Demon or his tricks to protect me. Besides, Jade had won the battle, not I. I felt no uplifting surge of euphoria from the conclusion of this ordeal. I paused long enough to watch Loki walk off into the fog without me and then used the Poketech for a point of reference. I walked in a westerly direction, sloshing through the tall wet grass with mud clinging to my heels. Occasionally, I used the long handle of the axe to prod at the soft earth to assure myself a solid footing. I needed to get to town to treat my wounded partners and to clean up. I expected the fog to clear before longif the map and my location on it could be trusted. Well, Jade, I said softly after a long bout of silence. The spider tilted her head toward me in consideration. I am glad you won the battle, but tell me. Did you tell Hawkeye you wanted him to take the fall for youthat you were simply using him? Did you hint at it in the slightest? Jades prolonged silence led me to believe she wasnt going to answer. I tilted my head to look at her better. She looked away and then finally shook her head, admitting her deceit. Did it not occur to you, that Hawkeye would have done it without you trying to trick him? Jade could only stare, so I continued. Hawkeye trusts you, Jade. He knew what you had in mind or he wouldnt have remained on the field of his own free will, not after he realized you had summoned him and not I. He knew he was taking the fall for you all along. You did not win this battle on your own. I dare say that ghost would have slaughtered you had Hawkeye not willingly came to your aid. Jade was beginning to look chagrined. Do not forget your team mates Jade, they are more than partners, they are your family and your friends. Jade waited, expecting me to continue my lecture but when I did not she could only stare. Like it or not the selfish spider now had something to think about. She hated it when I was right. She did not realize I was reminding myself as well. Location: Murmur Valley, The Unclearable Fog Marsh 1, the western border Destination: Malral Obstacle: NPC Loki

He was gone just as quick as he had arrived. As you continued through the fog, it began to get thinner and thinner. You could soon see the faint image of buildings in the distance.
