Hi, I will be the proud owner of a parrotlet in 3 weeks time and am having a few problems finding a suitable cage! I have read that the cage should be wider than it is long but I can't seem to find any. Any suggestions for cages in the UK would be great. Many thanks

hi Jess and welcome to the forum :) if you are looking for cages I would suggest to buy the biggest you can afford. this is the type I use they come with three feeders and a stand they are a good size for a Parrotlet, I have two of these.

I dont know where you are in the country so I would suggest 24parrot here

if you have a bit more room and for a little bit more money you could have this, I have one of these for my budgies,

both of these cages are great if you have the space and the money, yes you could just buy a big budgie cage but I have found they normally have small doors and are hard to get into.

this is what my three look like together

hope this helps

I agree with Kev the bigger cage you can afford the happier your new baby will be. Small doors don't work very well when trying to work with your bird.

What are the actual dimensions Jess ?

I must admit, the height looks great, our two green "Piranhas" love climbing up & sitting right near the top. Probably makes them feel safer to be up high

The food & water are up nice & high, that should stop a lot of poop getting into either, although you may have more cleaning outside that cage unless you put some clear plastic on the bars where they eat :o P'lets are MESSY eaters

How big is the door? It look like it's near the middle & a decent size.

They are not bad cages at all, Tracey-Ann and Sue have one in their shop, I think they also sell them. They are a good size for a Parrotlet plenty of room to climb and to fly backwards and forwards. As Andy said keep the food up high and put loads of branches and stuff lower down and he will have the time of his life in that cage (your Parrotlet not Andy) :)

I got Razz a San Diego from northern parrots:
http://www.24parrot.com/San-Diego-(Choice-...lours)-P97281a/

It's bigger than it seems from the pic, it's one of the biggest i oculd find that still had suitable space between the bars (under 1.5cm). I find it is a good size and the door is nice and big.
I have to say i was not happy with northern parrots delivery service though. The first time i got a cage from them, they took money out of my account but didnt process the order, then they delivered it to the wrong address and tried to pick it up from the correct one (if that makes sense) so it took ages to come. I ordered another, smaller cage for my parents house in March and apparently it won't arrive until June

It's a shame that companies can get so lackadaisical about their customers

That's a neat cage though.

blue2 Ive seem the cage at Tracy & Sues shop
It was a good size.. I liked it but...it was too high
for where I had to put it..
Guess its what fits and if you like it..
Just a thought.. its low to the ground for
cleaning.. my tiel has a very large cage to the
gound and I have to get on my knees for cleaning
the bottom.. as Im getting older I find it
not as easy as the higher up one!
