I'm a little worried about jazz. I checked jazz in his cage earlier and noticed he is roosting on the floor rather than the top perch like he normally does. I said his name a few times and he didnt respond. I ran my finger along the bars next to him and he did nothing, nor did he do anything when i opened the door and it accidently slammed shut. He stirred slightly when i reached in and scritched him a bit, but stayed in that roosting position. Now i know it is a bit late, but normally if i make any move towards the cage at any time of day or night he wakes up or at least makes some movement. He definately doesnt normally let me scritch him without permission. i got him out and straight away he did a really watery poo, with a white bit but no green. Now, instead of trying to get on my hand or snuggling into my hair like he usually does, he is on my lap asleep again. He's usually very funny about me touching hissides or tummy, but now he is not doing anything when i stroke him there. I suppose what im trying to get at is that he's not acting normally. Should I be worried? Thanks Abby |

See a vet ASAP. Birds hide signs that they are ill. If you see signs that you suspect are not normal for your bird get him to a vet! Please let us know how Jazz is doing. Good luck. |

Like Anita said, you should get little Jade to the vet right away. It's not normal for a bird to be unresponsive like that, especially with the abnormal poop. He really needs to be seen ASAP! |

All i can say is what the others have and take him to an avian vet as soon as possible even if it means an out of hours visit, your boy is very ill. |

Hey thanks so much for your concern, I was trying to find a vet last night but I then realised that yesterday morning, i gave Jazz his seed but covered it in bits of chopped veg in an attempt to get him to eat it. When i gave it to him, he took one look and then wouldnt take a single bite. I left him to it assuming he would try a bit, or if not, find his seed underneath. However cos he didn't touch the veg he didnt get to his seed, so he must not have eaten anything that day!! so i gave him some fresh seed and he ate loads and perked right up. He is totally normal now, but next time i will make sure if im giving him veg he always has some seed easily availabe, cos i was so scared last night!! Anyway thanks for the advice last night, i think in the future i will have an emergency vet number ready just in case. |

Like everyone has said...please get him to an avian vet asap. When a bird actually starts to show he is ill, you have no time to waste.
:( Please let us know how you make out... |

Just a word of advice Abby, any time a bird has shown signs of trouble (even if you figure out what is causing it & they seem like they're back to normal), you really should still take them to the vet for a wellness check. Even though he seems ok, we're not putting Bertie back into his regular cage until he's been checked again by the vet. This is the reason to have an "emergency" fund for your pets, as these visits can be expensive. We're not millionaires so anytime we have a little extra cash, we put a few bob in a savings account. It soon adds up & will really help in an emergency. I'm sorry I don't mean to lecture anyone & I know you're a good mom Abby, but as the others have said, birds hide things & I'm sure you want to be 100% sure he's ok ;) |

Yes I take my birds in once a year. I will be taking my pair of Parrotlets in again in 6 months again because they will be near breeding age so I want to be sure they are in good health before I put in a breeding box. |

Hey, so i took Jazz to the vet yesterday. He said that Jazz looks fine, but he told me to keep an eye on him and if he was still passing abnormal stools or if he went to sleep on the bottom of the cage again, to bring him in for blood tests. He also gave him a general check up which was useful, and only charged me half the normal consultation price rather than the usual price for birds which is extra. Result!! Anyway im glad i took him in, im a lot happier now. Thanks everyone, Abby |

Observing your birds behavior at all times is the key. Any sign of something not quite right & you need to start investigating. Glad Jazz is ok. I'd still watch him closely for a while though. |
