Silly question - how do you know when they're "with egg"?

Our two (named Pic and Mindy by the way - very Italian!!!! rotfl+ ) always seem to want to do "it" when we're eating dinner. S'pose it's a bit of entertainment.....

hi Dansnan, they will mate just for the "fun" of it, some hens will start laying in food bowls or just on the cage floor. but iam hoping that for now that she wont start laying until i put a box in the cage for her, mine always do it while iam eating breakfast :)

I think Squeek has taken on a project that's out of his league

If they do have "recreational sex" how does the female not lay an egg each time? Do they have some kind of "natures birth control" built in??

:o

You will start noticing (if you havent allready) your budgies in the aviary will mate a lot, but without the propper stimulation given by a nest, they wont produce eggs. It seems they have to have the propper conditions in order to produce the eggs. The only one that will produce eggs all the time in my aviary is Stitch, and thats why she's been pulled and is now with the grass keets. Then you have others like Lilo, that think the seed dispencer is an appropriate nest! LOL

I have read a lot too that p'lets need the sounds of other p'lets to get them to produce eggs.

i would have to agree with buzz on this, i also think its down to having somewhere to nest. you wil always get the odd bird who will just lay. and some who have never shown any interest at all like sky my budgie.

Yes I had a bird that loved to just lay eggs even without a male in her cage. It drives you up the wall!!! <_<

Thanks for the answer BUZZ. I think you're right, as I also heard somewhere that they need the sound of other P'lets. You may need to get the tape recorder going, Kev
