Our new home FINALLY got here! That'll teach me to order anything online near a holiday weekend -- took a full 2 weeks to get here. It's a lot bigger than the other one, so all the space is a little surprising--she doesn't use it all yet, but the new toys are very popular!

Sorry it's not a great pic, I was sitting on the kitchen floor shooting up at it. Only remaining problem: it's filling up our kitchen table! Have to build a bigger shelf for it on the wall.

And a closeup with new slinky (thanks for the tip Nickie!) and her favorite of the new stuff--that thing is made specifically to be shredded!

thats a nice set up Iness i notice you have catches on all the doors, good idea as they can learn to open those type of doors quite quick.

We have the same cage, it is a great cage. You have a good set up there, she should be very happy  One thing I did was change the door so that it lifts up & then swings to the side. I didn't like the way it stuck up in the air when it was open, it got in the way & sometimes it would slam down shut if I knocked into it by accident.

Not sure about the nest thing, Boo has a finch nest that is the "open" type & all she does is tear it to bits eek. No mating behavior there   I think if you take the top off you'll be fine.

The "shreddy" thing is good too. They will leave them alone for a while then one day it's torn to pieces.

Good job, worth waiting for.

Nice cage, Iness! I can see she has a water bottle...that's great! I wish all breeders would get their babies used to bottles. They're so much cleaner than water dishes.

I haven't had a problem with the nest yet...she won't go inside it! It's a leftover from our finches (who also don't go inside the ones they have but built on top instead), so I gave it a shot. She prefers to hang off the wall next to it and tear it apart. If she starts getting defensive of it, I guess it'll have to come out but I don't think it's going to last that long.

Learned about the water bottle the hard way: our senegal was on pelleted food, and he liked to soak them, so his bowl was pretty nasty by about 5 minutes after he got up in the morning. He actually learned the water bottle well enough that he would poke food up against the ball to get it soft! I'm surprised some birds won't use them: I've never had a problem with them figuring it out right away. We even have our finches on them, they're not as smart as parrots but they figured it out within the first day!

QUESTION: How did you adjust the door? My forehead has already been personally introduced to the edge when it was stuck in its open position.

It's a "hack job" but the door works much better

You need basic skills with pliers or wire cutters Posted Image

Basically, I cut the metal loop things on the right side of the door to where they just hook over the vertical bar that they used to slide up & down on. Now, I just lift the door a few inches & it swings open to the left, then I hook it open so it doesn't swing closed. When you want to close it, you just lift it an inch or 2 & hook the cut bits back around the bar.

The left side loops that are uncut, act as hinges.

Be careful cutting the loops as if you cut them too short they won't hook around the bar & you'll have to figure out another way to lock the door closed.

Here's a few pics. Hope you can figure out how to do it from this.
