Hi all - we are the new proud owners of a pair of blue celestial parrotlets! Sorry this is a long post will keep future posts shorter - promise. We had been thinking about getting a bird or two for some time, having previously had african greys, canaries, budgies and the odd cocky or two, we wanted to increase the family with some feathered friends. We had no intention of getting parrotlets, indeed had never heard of them until we saw these two in a bird centre in north London. Apart from love at first sight, we had to save them! They were in a very small cage, about 6" x 6" x 8", crammed into the corner of the shop and looking completely overwhelmed and very sad. We were told they were the last two available. We left them that evening but came home and read everything we could find on the net, bought a book and read that as well. The upshot of this tale is that Inca (f) and Cusco (m) came home with us the next day - last Friday. Well we think male and female.... They are not hand tame, we are going very very slowly but they are getting braver every day, and last night actually slept on their perch rather than clinging to the side of the cage, a great leap forward! they are also gradually getting over their terror of anything new in the cage, apple being a thing of horror has now become a favourite treat. They are both very much in love! Will keep you up to date with progress and try and post some pics in a day or so but any advice gratefully received! |
