Hello everyone i'm Buddies mum, Buddie is a green fallow parrotlet born on 10-7-07 purchased from wildheart pet and pet supplies in newport gwent, This is the first parrotlet that i have ever had. I have had budgies in the past, But when i seen parrotlets advertised on the net i read up on them and rang wildheart in newport and spoke to Tracy who said come and have a look. So went and spoke to tracy , and to cut a long story short... came back with (now named Buddie). We have now had buddie 8 days (6-8-07) and we love him to bits. We would love to know how to stop him biting as he has only just started trying his luck yesterday, and seems to be pushing his luck . He was great up until yesterday. He was hand reared by tracy, so just wondering if we are doing anything wrong to encourage him to bite. We have read through some of the forum, But not read through all of it at this moment in time, He is great regardin coming to hand from cage etc... so hoping one of you could possibly give us some advice please. Thanking you. Ali and Paul.

Welcome to the forum! Glad you joined!!

Sounds like he is just trying to see how much he can get away with ;) My Zuben nipped a bit but that was a phase he was going through. How old is your p'let? I think you gotta typo? But one thing you could try is when he goes to nip/bite you Don't pull away. That is a reaction that will encourage this behavior and when he does this give him a firm "NO". He will catch on. I did this with Zuben and it took a bit but he finally got it ;) I hope this helps.

Yes it sounds like he's testing the waters (you) ;) to see how much he can get away with. As Nickie said don't pull away....they love it when they know they have you going

Hi Bonnie and Nickie, Thankyou for your replies, We try not to pull away, Also sometimes when he bites its normally when he's in a position where you can not push against the bite and cannot move your fingers or arm away from him, Like you have mentioned if you do try and tell him off or pull away he thinks it's a game and tries to bite more, BTW.... he is now just over 8 weeks old, He was born on 10th of july 2007. Welcome.

We have 2 Pacific's (male & female) & they both went through a nippy stage. Just let them know it's not acceptable either the "evil eye" or blowing hard in their face when they nip or a time out, etc.

They will get past this stage, but you have to work at it. Search the threads there is some good advice here.

Hi buddietheparrotlet and welcome to our family! Unfortunately "nippiness" is very common with a Parrotlets in their early stages..don't get discouraged..it should pass!
