I wanted to say "Hi," and introduce myself. Short story on the stats: 26, married female, living in Florida. I don't currently have a parrot (although we have a small flock of zebra finches) but am looking. Hoping to bring somebody home in the next few weeks if I can work it out! I have plenty of bird experience, been around them since I was in middle school, but never have had a parrotlet. The last bird I lived with was a Senegal parrot, but we had to find him a new home -- he developed the habit of screaming constantly, at the top of his voice, whenever I wasn't home. I decided it would be better to find him another home rather than have my husband leave. That was a little over a year ago -- he's now living with a very nice lady who has lots of birds, and says he is getting along very well with his new roommates (not at all intimidated by the Amazons and Cockatoos that are several times his size). Anyway, I miss having a bird-friend, but can't go through the experience of having to give one up again. So, doing lots of research, and parrotlets are on the short list of what I'm pretty sure my husband will be able to enjoy having around, and not go crazy from. (Other top contender so far is the lineolated parrot.) The few I've met having been making the quiet little squeaky-cheep noises: is that all they do or is there something worse when they're mad or upset? Looking forward to reading posts...anything anyone can offer by way of guidance will certainly be appreciated! Laura :) |

Hi Laura and welcome!!!!! I'm sorry about your past experience with your Senegal. I know for a fact no one here will steer you away from a Parrotlet! They are like having a large parrot in a little package! And the most noise they make is a little chirpping when they are excited! Good luck on your choice! |
