Hi all - Some of you already know me from 'that conure' forum. My name is Mark. I don't currently have any Parrotlets, but I do have a couple of Conures - a Sun named Summer (14 year-old female) and a Brown-Throat named Kahn (16 year-old unknown). I've owned many different types of parrots since 1990 (4 Cockatiels, 2 other Conures, 2 Lovebirds, 1 Parrotlet and 8 Budgies). I may have forgotten 1 or 2 in there somewhere  . But I've been with just the 2 current Conures for the last 8 years or so. I see there's a thread for putting a pic of yourself up. I'll see what I can come up with. And here's my 2 little monsters:

Hi Mark, I've seen you at Conure Crazy. I posted photos of my Green Cheek in her flight suit (which she refuses to wear again, I might add!).

You have two cute little conures there! Is the Brown Throat also called a St. Thomas conure? I saw one of those at Petco last year. He was the cutest little guy and got me interested in getting a conure myself. Anyway, welcome to the forum! :D

Thanks all for the welcome..

Laura - Yep. I believe the Brown-Throat is a 'sub-species' of the St. Thomas Conure. From what I've read their average lifespan is 10 years, though with proper care they can live to be 25. Guess he's middle-aged now. I paid $75US for him from a breeder in Minnesota. I don't know if that's too much or what, since I've never seen another one for sale.

GardenGail - Kahn does have that look in that pic. He's not a "Don't mess with me" type of guy though. He's friendly (to me only). He laughs, says 'goodnight', coughs (I just ask if he has a cough and he coughs) and he can say "SHUT-UP!!" pretty good too. Not sure where he learned that. :D

When I lived in Minnesota, I'd go on the Hennepin County Humane Society Animal Walk every year. In 1994, me and Kahn made it in the newspaper:

As for Summer, she's also a one person birdie. She can say one word ("night"), which she says every night when it's bedtime. She loves her scritches and crawling around/sleeping/chewing in my shirt. She got really comfortable in my shirt once a few years ago and laid an egg in there. I think it surprised us both.

I don't remember if there was an article with it or not. There is a little text under the pic (I cropped it out of this pic) that says my name and that I walked with my Brown-Throated Conure. I miss those walks. It was funny because people would ask why he doesn't fly away (he was clipped) and I would just say "velcro".
