Yes I do intend to while away the hours playing the Environment Enrichment game before it becomes a real home. So I've got a fair few months to get it right lol. Funny you should mention 'play stand' as I have been toying with the idea of getting one of those Java play stands but they are ridiculously over priced for what they are. I have found a seller on Ebay who sells lovely big (64x40cm) pine untreated breakfast trays for folk who want to 'do them up' also another seller for Java roots so im going to make my own out of these Posted Image Posted Image |

What about an opening on top so a play stand can be across (seen on some cages and gives the birds the opportunity to be out of their cage yet still on top of their open home. You could have the opening and all you would need is a perch or two across the top  Though you could put a perch on top and he/she could easily climb in and out of those big doors. My two birds are so savvy at climbing around their cage. Their cage has a pitched roof and they slide down the roof with great ease. They also find it really easy when climbing back onto the roof to negotiate the overhang. I will have to video them, they have become very good at manoeuvering. I have another sort of ornamental cage - it's a vintage cage and too small and impractical to house them but is great for them to fly to as an alternative when they are loose. On top of that cage I have put a flexible rope perch in a sort of 'n' shape. They love it up there! That's going to be one large cage Berni. Think you will have to call it Parrotingham Palace. Makes my bird cage look like a matchbox   Really looking forward to seeing photos and I wish I had known before I got my cage there was someone who could have made one to my design. A definite thought for the future, though I am very pleased with their current cage, |

Kathryn I rarely used the opening tops of the Montana San Remo or Madeira as Olly just used his Java branches on the outside of the cage to land and alight from and ignored everything else. Probably because he had so many other play areas in the room and felt safe he didn't feel he had to stick around on his cage. I will be attaching Items to the top and sides as maybe the new one will have different preferences. I'm a fan of rope cargo nets, they look great up the walls and hanging from the ceiling and you can attach loads of fun things from them to do, when its out of cage time. :) |

 Luv your humour Jan. Due to my holiday and my Granddaughters request for a Blue I'm on Hayley's waiting list for a Cobalt. A parent reared chunky boy. I'm just playing around with cages and making toys etc. to pass the time. Obviously Mother Nature will dictate when I will have a feathered friend again. Since Olly was so well known in the community and his untimely death affected so many of us, I have had many offers to take on other folks Parrots which I have declined. I just have that soft spot for Parrotlets. My nearest town is Camberley and there seems to be some Parrot hand rearing going on, from incubating eggs I suspect. They regularly advertise baby Macaws, Cockatoos, Greys, Eclectus, Amazons and Caiques, this has been going on for years, so the area is flooded with folk who are finding that cute cuddly baby now reaching adolescence is beyond their understanding and are seeking to rehome. Such a shame. I really wish there was a mandatory training course people had to attend before ownership. I'm certainly neither equipped in experience, specific specie knowledge or facilities to take on these poor misunderstood psittacines. |

Sad people don't realise how long some parrots can live... a lovely cuddly bird grows up, into a spoilt biting bird... I agree, there should be some training before people can own any pet. |

Steve and Claire delivered my aluminium cage on Monday. They are such lovely people, came all the way from South Wales and only charged £20 carriage. The cage is HUGE and in six sections. Steve is eager for photo's once I've done it up but will have to wait as I want to treat it all with F10 so I'm waiting until nearer the big day to put it all together. Beautifully made and the castors are so robust even I could go for a ride in it  I might even save up for a massive garden aviary from them so me and little one can play in the outdoors together. The wait is killing me, I've even started kissing my feather duster rofl |
