Cost is not an issue. I work at least 8 hours a day, sometimes 10. Still, I'm home at least 3 hours everyday which I can spend with a pet. I want to make sure that that is enough time for me to be spending with a parrotlet. Maybe I should just get a ball python. Well, maybe if I didn't have to feed it mice. |

You say your only home about 3 hrs a day??? The first and foremost important thing to think about is how much time you have to spend with any pet. Just because they have a nice cage and plenty of good food the quality time spent with an animal is very important. I don't always get to spend hours with my birds but they are able to be out of their cages every day so the can get exercise. Now that summer is here they also get a few hours out doors. Getting a Parrolett is a quite a few yrs commitment. I don't have a Parrlett but from what I've read from other members they do require a lot of one on one or they get a little offish. |

hi and welcome to parrotlets. I always think that the first thing you should be thinking if your considering a parrotlet is.. can i or am i prepared for 10 to 20 years of commitment, they are just too intelligent to be left by themselves in a cage for years on end. |

Hey Dirt...Bonnie and Kevin both have great points! I try to give mine at least an hour or two out of his cage each day during the week and more obviously on the weekend. He seems agreeable to it. Sometimes more or a little less...but it's what I've been averaging. Not sure if that helps...? Good luck in your decision! |

Hi Dirt and welcome. All my birds get "out" time the minute I walk in door after work and most weekends all day. They require a great deal of attention, actually they demand a great deal of attention..lol... So make sure you really think it through before you make your decision...like Kev it's a 10-20 year commitment! |
