Hi all

Would just like to know what you guys think about uv lighting?
If you have one or if you think they are a good idea or not.

Thanks Matty

I don't know myself. I did read a fair amount about it a while ago but wasn't totally convinced and the lights and replacements are quite expensive.

Jan has uv lighting - sure she will give you an opinion on it. :) :)

I have just ordered the lighting kit off Northen Parrots what convinced me was Olly's reaction to colour at my daughters house when she had a full spectrum light going. I had read parrots can be somewhat dubious of certain colour and patterns so I had been slowly introducing a full range to him at home. I don't think he really registered the colour in a regularly lit room but he certainly displayed a dislike when the same day glo pink was lit by the full spectrum. I don't know if there will be any other benefits but it will be interesting to see. I also don't like covering him for the whole night when its so warm. I like the air to circulate, so I would rather just cover part of his cage and have lights on an automatic timer for the morning.

Little Prince Olly
 my daughter said I'm turning him into a 'Birdzilla' and I had better out live him as none of the family have a house big enough for all his paraphernalia.

Yes I use UV lighting for my birds..
I purchased it for Zippi as he plucks his feathers..
I use it every day.. I think it does the birds good.
You have to change the bulb every 6 months...
it seems to lose some of its brightness after this long.
I usually put it on for an hour in the morning, and
about 30 mins in the afternoon.
I wouldn't be without it.. but that's only my opium.
Maybe other members have idea's.

Ha! Ha! Little bird, lotsa stuff!!

That's interesting Jan, I meant to ask you a few months on what you reckoned to the uv light.

In what ways do you find it makes a difference?

I don't really know... it helps Zippi.. he still pulls
his feathers but not quite as much..
I just feel it does them good! Seems to keep
there feathers bright and healthy..
All I can say is try it.. see what you think!

I doubt they would be full spectrum.
