Hey everyone!

Slightly strange I have not actually bought a parrotlet yet  but i will do so as soon as possible! Really I just want confirmation that I have made the right choice and that I live in a suitable environment for a parrotlet (i have never owned a bird before).
I have done literally countless hours of research firstly on which type of bird would be best and how to look after parrotlets ( I have become slightly obsessed with them  ! lol) I get the impression that they're fine with people with limited space. I live in student housing but have enough room for a decent sized cage and my housemates are lovely. As i am a student it also means that I can spend plenty of time at home with it apart from work obviously :P
Does anyone have some advice for some essential buys before bringing a baby home? One of my housemates (who has no experience) says parrots are smelly and will poo everywhere but aren't parrotlets toilet trainable to a certain extent? and surely doing a quick clean every day will stop the cage smelling? also does anyone know of any good breeders either near london or in cleveland?

Ok i think that's everything (pant pant) lol any replies would be greatly appreciated, just want to make sure that I know enough before actually getting a bird.
Thanks very much!
(also any general tips would be invaluable)

Dear Forever,

I ,myself did a lot of research too...I have had Parakeets before and wanted a change. i am very pleased with my new P-Let. As far as poo...well they are good at that...but if you do a quick clean after them it's not bad. You can pre-cut Newspapers to the saze of your cage bottom and replace those once a day. Mouthwash works for cleaning cage. Keeps it Minty fresh. Odors only come out if you are not cleaning ie food on the bottom of cage for day's. They are about as quiet as your going to get for a bird. Good luck, Welcome, and don't hesitate to ask questions!

Hi Foreverodd and welcome! You sound like you've already done your research! You are making an excellent choice! I have two large Parrots and a Parrotlet. Believe me the Parrotlet is a breeze to take care of compared to my bigger guys! I use paper towels in the bottom of his cage and just change them everyday. Ask questions and keep us posted!!!

I think you will do just fine with a Parrolett, you have done your research and that's more than most people do. So many times I see impulse buying of birds that the excitement wears off and the bird is alone.
