I've got a Montana Madeira coming hoping it will be here in a day or 2, but want to start picking toys and extra perches etc up when I'm out. Is there any favourites that you could recommend or anything that should be avoided?

mine all go nuts for toilet rolls!!! and they all love swings (apart from 2 pairs of the green rumped sub species I keep they are never timid birds) some have ladders, I have a seesaw swing type in most of mine (wilkinsons £1.19!) I brought Pancake (my pet 'disabled' specie) this.....>>> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trixie-Hamster-Mouse-Gerbil-Cage-Hanging-Suspension-Bridge-Ladder-Toy-6274-/160786174303?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item256f9a515f he loves it LOL! even thought its a hamster' toy! also use a good variety of branches! my father in law has a cherry tree we are always cutting branches off ! smug: smug: but in The range they sell wooden effect screw on branches (large £1.99 small £1.49) and they are all different. Java branches are great too! Blake and cinnamon (my green rumped pair) have a forked branch in their cage. they are easy to keep clean too!!

Does the cherry tree wood need treating in anyway or can it go straight in? When you say toilet rolls do you mean a whole roll or just the middle bit?

Hi Chantelle - the Montana Maderia is an excellent choice - I have one too, my two bonded P'lets Clint and Narna share that cage. In fact all of my birdies are housed in Montana cages!

As for toys I order a lot of mine from Northen Parrots! The smaller toys ( suitable for little birds ) I find quite reasonable, they especially like their shredding toys, toys with leather knots ( they chew a lot when they're babies ) and anything that makes a noise ( bells - balls etc! ) and like Hayley said swings!! :)

I've just ordered one of these Trixie hamster/mouse things, looks lovely. Going to have enough toys and bits to last them forever by the time I get them. Off to Tragos tomorrow to see what they have in. Will have a look at the Northen parrot site and see what takes my fancy there too. Are the gym things that don't go in the cages worth getting? Do they play on them much when they are out of there cage?

I'm also a Montana fan having the Maderia and the San Remo (also a couple of other cages for camping Pak-o-Bird and Irene 4). Scarlett's and Northern Parrots are where I have bought a load of toys and purchased pet safe beads and butchers string from Amazon to make some of my own. Currently making a couple of adjustable flight/recall perches out of microphone stands, it's amazing how creative you can get. Also have a 100cm sq rope cargo net which is currently having toys attached. Oh and mustn't forget the jute apron I've sewn buttons, toggles, feathers and stainless body piercing jewellery on, which I can wear turning myself into a birdie playground

On the play gyms...
Mine don't use the one I have at all.
They prefer, me to set up something out of
newspaper, kitchen roll, bells etc. on the counter top.
Worth a try if its not too expensive.

I got most of Donny's toys from zooplus, they have sale very often. I sometimes buy too much, but at least I can re-shuffle the toys while some are being washed and dried.
Other inexpensive toys are plastic bottle cups, buttons, bells, bells and more bells. It seems that there is never enough bells giggley

My cage has come today yaaaaay. Trago had some lovely toys in, couldnt get any though as had eldest with us and he would have questioned why, and trying to keep it a secret from the kids. Eldest did comment on the budgies saying he like 2 coz the colours where like parrots. Cant wait to see his face when I get them.

I have two playgyms and none of my P'lets play on them
Pea will sometimes sit on one just to watch the others playing but thats all!!
They seem to prefer the birdie rope and swing which are hanging from the french doors and front window, they also love to play on my windowsill, whereas none of the others do!!
