I hate that! Why do people act like Parakeets are just a dime a dozen...It's so sad... I know someone that operates a bird rescue and the number of keets she gets is insane..

"Come dear...let us buy Johnny a cute little parakeet for his birthday...and when he gets tired of it and no one wants to take care of it...we will just drop him off somewhere...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....pisses me off!

I guess it's a sad fact of our "throwaway" society today

It's still a little life form that's capable great character & emotion, even if it doesn't cost $200

if you want to do some tests, you could use avian biotech ask for collecting kits and then send them in they will then do the test for you.here

Thanks, Kev. I didn't even know this testing was possible through these labs. I thought it was only DNA testing.

I know it's hard finding a good avian vet but these vets wouldn't be treating my birds. I love the little one as much as the big one and if they don't understand that then maybe they should get into another line of work

Hi Laura, i'm sorry your little addition didnt fare to well in the aviary... i would say the little one didnt aclimate properly. with (fingers crossed) warmer temps on the way, one you have nursed her back to health, she should be fine.

If you dont mind a drive.... my vet rocks! she breeds birds and is a fantastic avian vet! http://www.yourpets.com/ the staff is wonderful too. we have been using her for, wow, its got to be 15+ years. If you go to her website, you can see info on her rolling oaks aviary (where she breeds)(i think its "rolling oaks" i'd have to go refreshl my brain!)

we had a problem in the aviary too, night frights! friday night they spooked, lemon broke a feather and when i got up sat am, her wing was bloody. it was all dry, so i'm just keeping an eye on her. emergency cage is set up if needed!

thats a great link kev... i too knew they did dna, but wasnt aware they did other tests too! will add it to CC!

Wow, Buuz, you're so lucky to have a great vet like that. I wish it wasn't so far for us - must be about 80-90 miles??
Do you have any idea what's causing the night frights in your guys? Poor little Lemon, glad to hear her feather has dried up.

Bonnie, I agree. We're not going to using that vet any more! Looking for a new one!

out of all my birds its only frank (budgie) that has night frights, they can be caused by all different things, a sudden noise, a movement, a light, but i think the most common thing is when the budgies touch or shake their feathers during the night and that suddenly wakes up one of the birds who through natural instinct takes flight.
the reason i say this is that a couple of weeks ago i was on the computer late at night with the lights out and no music playing and i heard one of the budgies shake and fluff up and then frank went mad in the cage. the other thing ive noticed is once they have stopped thrashing around, they always look like they have no idea where they are or what happened like a sleep walker.

Awe I'm sorry to hear Lemon hurt herself, those darn night frights can cause the birds to hurt themselves very badly.
