:D I've pretty much finished the aviary and put numerous perches, swings, etc, inside. I'll take a few pics shortly & post them. What minimum temperature would be ok to put them outside in the aviary? They've been inside birds, so I don't want to throw them out into the aviary when it's freezing :o (Not that that happens much in Southern California  ). It gets down into the high 50's Fahrenheit at night, I've heard that 55f is about the lowest temp for birds that aren't used to living outside. I have a heat lamp set up similar to Buuzbee, should I use that at night until Summer gets here? B) |

I would agree I wouldn't want it to go under 55 for them being as they have been indoor birds. If they were mine I would probably try to maintain a 60 at first then go down in temp every other day until it's 55 but that's just me  I'm a worry wart when it comes to my babies. |

We're in for GREAT temps this saturday. Put them out nice and early and put the heat lamp on when you do. That way they will know where the warm spot is, and where to go at night. We're you able to get the roll down blinds? DONT forget to put in the solar lamp when the sun goes down. I put Kates budgies in the aviary about 2-3 weekends ago, and they were house birds. In a couple more weeks the winter box will be removed in my aviary. Good luck and keep us posted! (psssssst, we need more pics please!) |

How "dark" do the blinds have to be? I mean, how much light do they have to filter? I found some wooden one's that would give good protection from wind & predators, but they don't stop that much light. Would this lead to a morning "squawk-a-thon" at dawn? nod2 |

gosh, i want you two to come over!!! the ones i originally had from home depot were better quality. The replacements i got were crap! they were the "fake" bamboo and let a ton of wind thru! they did the job, but i wont get them again! as long as you can "break" the wind (ha ha, no gas jokes allowed!) they will be fine, i promise! as long as you are putting a healthy stock out, you WILL be great! now they are saying sat will be great weather, by monday rain (SHUT UP GAIL LOL!!!!!!) |

I love to visit Ca but just never had the desire to live there. We used to visit John's aunt and uncle in Hollywood and I loved the beauty because they took us everywhere. I was envious when they retired because a home they bought yrs and yrs ago sold for bookoo bucks and it was just a plain ranch. |

Laura's mum paid $27,000 for a house in a beach town called Dana Point, in 1973 & sold it in 1999 for $470,000, it's now worth close to a mil!
:o Anyway, it's cen1 ing expensive to buy a house down here in CA. Luckily, we rent from my mum-in-law otherwise we couldn't afford to live here :( Now the good news! I've finally finished the aviary :P If you want to see some of the pictures here's the link to Laura's "Photobucket" account ban1 http://s151.photobucket.com/albums/s150/lannr/ I put the trapdoor in the side so that we can place and remove spoilables such as (veggies) without actually going into the aviary. You can see the double door entry, you go into the first door, shut and lock it behind you, turn left and then the inner door opens inwards to discourage escapees <_< I made a little trap door down at the front of the aviary that you can open to sweep out all the muck. There's also a small door to thread a hose into the aviary for cleaning the concrete floor. I installed an electrical outlet ('Keet proof!) for the winter heat lamp and Laura put ultraviolet warning stickers on the glass window. Humans have a hard time seeing the stickers but birds have no problem, so it won't spoil our view into the aviary thru the window. We have some blinds that I will install this weekend and a small, wireless video camera for "spying" on the birds, then that's about it. B) We hope to put them in there on Sat or Sun. Should be a laugh a minute getting them out of their current home and into the new one  nod2 |
