hi im new to this, is millet training the best way to train parrotlets as ive got a bonded pair and have had them a week, for the first 5 days i got them out by hand but i now know i shouldnt do this , should i just leave the cage door open and wait till they are confident to come out on there own?

Hi and welcome wave

Congratulations on your new pair of parrotlets.
Millet is excellent for training parrotlets because they love it so much, talk softly to them and offer them millet and eventually they should feel comfortable enough to take the millet from your hand.
if you find the that they are a scared of you putting your hand in the cage get them to step onto a stick or wooden perch at first until they get used to you, this is how i first get my bird to step up.
you could leave the cage door open and they will probably come out on there own.
you are right it is not a good idea to pick them out of the cage, this will just make them scared of you.
It is a harder to train 2 parrotlets but it is possible i did it with sky and scooby, it is a good idea to take them into another room where there no distraction and not so many places to fly of to and escape a lot of people use the bathroom ( always make sure you put the toilet seat down) as it is small and not many high places,

You have definitely come to the right place for info!! My Pancake takes little bits of apple from me. But I haven't really tried to tame him.(he did have a key friend but recently had to separate them!) but Jackie has given you some great advice!!

parrotlets love to have little tiffs every now and again mine argue all the time, you can tell if they are male and female by the blue marking a male will have blue on his rump and on the edge of his wings the females will have blue but it will not be so dark and not on the tips of the wings, when you post pics we should be able to tell from them.
it does sound like there are coming along great :)
