Hi enthusiasts

Just posting to join up as a would-be parrotlet owner, but will take this opportunity to ask what it is about Wales that inspires so many breeders?? Myself and my girlfriend live in Edinburgh and it looks like we may have to borrow a car and take a wee Pembrokeshire holiday to pick up a new member of our family! Doesn't sound too bad actually...

So I have 2 questions,
Do parrotlets travel well (e.g. Wales to Scotland by car)? And...
Would we need to be careful of our often-free-range tortoise, or could our new parrotlet be easily taught to leave him alone (or become firm friends)?

Any kind of insight into these problems would help us on our way. We're very keen to adopt but patient too, want to get it just right.

Regards, Arren

Hello and welcome from a very frosty Wales today!
Glad you decided to become a member.. 0163951 Parrotlets travel very well..
Just be careful of drafts from the car windows..
When my birds travel I keep all windows shut.

I also use a fleecy cover around 3 sides of the cage
kept on with a pegs also covering the top..of the cage
just leave the side open facing the front of the car...
this way you can see him and he can see you.
Have seed and water in the cage also a sprig of millet
goes down well I find..As for the tortoise I cant help there..
Im sure other members will advise you also...
Enjoy the holiday and your new bird..
Where are you buying the parrotlet from?
Good luck let us know how it all goes.

Welcome to the group! I've only traveled with my parrotlets short distances but they really are good travelers.

I don't think a Parrotlet will bother your tortoise as he probably won't view it as much of a threat to him. A lot of people on the forum, including myself, have dogs and there aren't any problems with them and the birds.

Let us know how the trip goes and all about your new Parrotlet! :)

Yeah we welsh rock!! LOL!!
Most birds are fine at traveling, I'm hoping to pick up some from the Netherlands over the summer!! As long as there kept warm and have plenty of food water and a tasty apple ( well that's what I give ... And some millet too) And a good travel cage (nothing too big but not too small I have loads from stafford which are about £5 each) also if you're a smoker do not smoke in the car with the birds!!!
Where are you getting the birds from?? There are quiet a few breeders in Yorkshire too.
