Hi guys I joined another parrotlet forum and what I needed was advice...they seemed to ignore my questions... maybe someone here can help.

So i couldnt decide and got both...Im keeping them seperately. Both my new babies are rescues.

Birdy one: Ive named him willy. he is doing very well already...warming up very fast. But he looks ragged and greasy. he is three years old and is eating and drinking normally. No puffed feathers and no ickies in his eyes or nose. his previous owner told me it was normal (its obviously not) and i was wondering if it could be nutrition based? Im very concerned about him as he just doesnt look healthy.

Birdy two: I havent picked a name yet but he is approx 5 weeks old. I am hand feeding him...yes he was given to me this way but i have lots of experience hand feeding parakeets and cockatiels. thankfully someone bought the breeding pair so this breeder is done (at least for now) i am getting him to step up on command and he does well. what other things should i start doing with him? I want him to be very very tame. Id like to teach him to be comfortable on his back.

Any suggestions would be awesome!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!Posted Image

Congrats on your two new birds! I'm not sure what you mean by "greasy" looking. Could it be a bathing issue? You can try misting him with warm water. Also does he have a cuttlebone?

The baby sounds like he is already tame. That's awesome! Just keep handling him and he will form a bond with you.

If the only concern is greasy and scruffy that's nothing a little tlc can't fix.
Like Gail said a little spritsing should help that.
Just make sure they have plenty to keep them entertained.
The little one does sound tame already and well done on taking on these birds!!
Do you have pics? Will be nice to see what you mean?!
And welcome to the forum!!

BIG WELCOME

I would say it sounds like you know what your doing..
Sprits the older bird.. maybe handle him in a soft
towell and rub him gently this may get rid of the
greasey feel. It could also be a game or cuddle time
with him..
The little bird sounds tame just luv and more luv
and plenty of handling for both.
Maybe others members will come up with idea's
Good luck a few pics will help.

Hi and welcome to the forum!! Everyone has given you great advice!

We really need a pic of Willy so we can see his feathers. We might be able to help if we can actually see what's going on.

The baby will be fine. Just keep handling him, put your hands around him and even turn him over gently in your hand. Scritch his head, they especially like to be touched around their ears and should close their eyes. I think the key to keeping a baby really tame is to handle him this way every day if possible. :)
