Jake seems very friendly and screeches when I leave the room. He loves attention. When I try to get him to come up on my finger he bites it. I just hold it there and say "No". This has been going on for for a couple of weeks. How much abuse can I take. Help! Do I need to try something different? He is 5 months old. I purchased him from a breeder who said he was hand feed. I should have realized he wasn't tame when she had to chase him around the room with a net. I have taught him to say "hello" and "pretty Bird" Which is an accomplishment for only having him a month. Cricket runs in streaks. Depends on what kind of mood he's in if I can pick him up or not! Like Jan said don't give up. It takes time to train these little pitbulls! giggle |

does he go onto your hand at all? He is in the early adolescent stage, and just like a child will be testing and pushing your boundaries. It's really important that you teach him some manners! All parrotlets will nip from time to time, mainly out of annoyance or frustration. If they get a good response from you (such as shouting) they'll bite again. I hold my finger above the beak (out of pecking distance!) and say a firm but calm 'no biting', and wait for him to calm down. this normally works - though now my one has started imitating the 'no biting' in his squeaky voice, i think my authority has gone! Don't lose heart, you may have to try a few different things until you find a method that works. drats |

Pickle would never step up on to my finger, it took us a few days to work out that he would step up straight away if we offered the hand up flat with the palm facing down. He is very tame now but he still doesn't like it if I try to get him to step up on to my finger. Don't give up I'm sure you will find something that works with Jake. :) Good luck |

As everyone else has said time and patience will do the trick, my little darling still bite me now as Gardengail said it depends what mood they are in :) |
