Hello!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself - my name in Helen, and I've just got my first parrotlet. He's a little green boy named Oscar, who is very lovely but quite shy at the moment! I'm really concerned to do everything right for him, and thus be expecting some rather worried posts and questions! Thanks for reading x

Hello Helen welcome to the forum, congratulations on your new baby Oscar. How old is he , was he hand tame when you got him. If not just be patient and move slowly with him.

Thanks guys! Lovely to hear from you all :)
Oscar's about 8 weeks old, and he hasn't been hand-reared, which I know isn't ideal, but the breeder has been very helpful and has assured me that he's still tameable! He's just about sitting on my hand at the moment, but is still very nervy (i've only had him a few days, though, so I suppose he's still rather anxious) - any tips for taming aviary bred birds would be much appreciated.
Its great to hear from some fellow West Yorkshire parrotlet owners too, so hi to John and Jackie!
The photos of all your birds are gorgeous - I'm going to put some up when Oscar stops being terrified of the camera! x

At 8 weeks old he is definetely tameable, it is all down to time and patience, once he has learned to trust you and has bonded with you he will be your best friend.
I kept one of sky past1 and scoobies nod2 babies last time little Tico blue1 ,he was parent reared but i sat and talked softly to him everyday ,i tempted him with millet and eventually he came onto my fingers and now he is lovely. Same with little Chika, nod2 her and tracy are now the best of friends.

Yes if he is that young yet it won't be so hard to get him hand tame.

Yery true what everyone said, he's just looking for someone to bond with, it's all a question of trust nodding When he sits on you don't make any sudden move or try to scritch him just yet. Just let him sit there & get used to you & learn to trust you 100%. It takes time, so as everyone has rightly said, patience is the key. It's very tempting to rush things in your excitement at having a little pal, but take things slowly & he will be fine in a while.

P.S. No matter how tame he seems, you will get a nip or two :scared: Do worry, that's just what they do when they love you giggle giggle giggle        drats Learn the difference between a "nip" & a "lunge/attack", most people mistake a nip for an attack or bad bite  drats

Thank you to everyone - I really appreciate the advice. I was expecting that it would take some time to get him comfortable with me, but its very reassuring to hear that it can be done! He seems happy enough at the moment, anyway, so I'll just go slow and prepare myself for a few little bites! Thanks again :) x
