I just can't cope - i came back from my hols yesterday and Chika was super nestled under my chin all afternoon and i just thought that she's missed me and then today, she didn't want to get up when i uncovered her and then when i let her out she just went straight under my chin and refused to move, she's all puffed up all the time and isn't eating anything - even millet. Her droppings are only a bit watery but otherwise seem to be ok, she's moulting heavily at the moment. I took her to the vets and the locum (only 1 there available) know NOTHING about birds and asked me what i thought should be done! She's going to take some advice and ring me back. I asked for some Baytril and have given her some of that. She is currently in her furry tent all curled up because if i let her out she just comes over to me and won't move from under my chin and i can't do it anymore, i can't watch another one die. MY budgie did that and died on my chest and i can't cope with that again. and i cant stop crying and i don't know what to do, i can't cope with driving her 25 miles to the nearest avian vet, i just think she'll be too trauma'd. she couldn't cope with being driven down the road beacuse when she see's me she just wants to be under my chin. I just keep thinking WHY, Why does this happen to my birds? what should i do? |

I think you need to take her to the vet Tracey theres nothing else you can do, as you know I have also been through this a few times but if you dont take her you might regret it. Has she been chewing something or fed the wrong food ? |

I agree Tracey she needs to see the avian vet right away, I forget who was taking care of Chika while you were away ? Could they have possible let her get to something she could have chewed or eaten something wrong? |

no, the only things she's being chewing are the things she always does, e.g. her toys & play gym. The food she's got is a slightly different mix, but not much and she's had it for a couple of weeks now. I just don't understand it. whilst i have been away the only difference is that she won't have been coming out - & i've only been away for 4 nights. the vet has just rang me and said that the vet she knows who knows about birds is away until tomorrow, so i have rung the avian vets in manchester and am waiting for them to get back to me. I am just hoping the drive won't trauma her too much, but if they can see her today, i will take her. |

I wish I knew what to tell you Trace. It could just be the molt & her missing you. How are her nostrils? Any redness? As the others have said, make sure that there's not something missing from a toy. Maybe the sitter gave her too much millet? There's not much nutrition in millet. How about water? Did she get the same as normal while you were away? |

Took her to the avian vet specialists in Manchester. I just had to leave her there, it was heartbreaking. :( I was told to ring back tonight. So i rang and they said that she has had some tests done and they have come back ok (they didn't say what for), they said that the vet has given her an anitbiotic injection and she has been tube fed so that she's got some food in her crop and she is staying in for observations overnight and i have to ring at 10.30 am tomorrow to see how she is and speak to the vet who might want to do some blood tests, will have to see how she goes overnight....... i just can't believe it! crying crying crying crying crying she kept trying to put her claws on my finger whilst i was driving every time i stopped at traffic lights and put my hand there to see if she was ok..... I will let you all know what happens tomorrow. i was avoiding my lovebirds when i first got back, but it's not their fault and so i have been playing with them and they have cheered me up a little bit - with a few bites! |

Oh I know you must be so terribly worried but you did the best thing by taking her to the vet. She will be well cared for but I know your going to have a restless night tonight worrying about her. Please let us know as soon as you know anything we are worried for Chika too. |

Tracey, I'm so sorry to hear Chika is poorly!! crying Like everyone else said, I'm really glad she's at the vet getting the best care possible. The hospital cages can do wonders since parrots need so much more heat when they aren't feeling well. |
