Hey everyone, i live in the uk and just bought myself a adorable celestial pied parrotlet (chibi) thats only 8 weeks old from wildhearts pets. Sue was great and gave me a lot of advice. So i just thought i'd post here and introduce myself :)
I was also going to get a female one from here but they arent ready yet so i might pick that one in 2 weeks time :)
I shall post pictures later. wave

Chirping can mean many things, if you go over and pick it up and it stops it may be calling you.

Hello. Congrats on your new bird
I got my parrotlet from Tracy and Sue. Then went back because my brother and a friend wanted parrotlets. They're super friendly down there at Wildheart, and they are ultra-dedicated to their birds. All 3 of the birds we've had from them have got brilliant temperaments. Don't be afraid to get your bird out for a play straight away. The only thing I would say is, don't let him out for longer now than you can commit to in the future.

Have fun. 2.gif

Hi and Welcome!Posted Image

I have never covered Cricket....I think it's personal preference.. They will usually go to bed on their own..if not then by all means put a cover over their cage...

I'll take some pictures tomorrow, i wanna see if i can get a picture of it preening itself( it looks so cute when it does that lol)
So you don't need to cover its cage? the only reason i covered it is cause i read somewhere on the internet that you had too..
Btw its hand reared but its not tamed yet as in it doesnt step up yet. should i still get it out of the cage and maybe just let it fly around the room? or should i only do that when it learns to step up?

Hi and welcome to the group!! wave

Like Gail said, you don't have to cover their cage, but you certainly can if you want to. We cover our birds and now they expect it, and go to sleep as soon as they are covered and sleep until they're uncovered in the morning. :)

As Gail said covering is not needed but I do cover mine at night.Since moving to my new place I put the birds to bed at 8:30 and I don't hear a peep out of them until at least 8 am now. They used to ake up way too early especially with summer here and the sun coming up very early. If your able to put them in a room where you can draw the blinds so it remains darker a little longer that helps too.

Some people are under the illusion that you have to have the birds in a quite room to sleep, this is not true, the jungle is actually quite a noisy place at night. Animals mostly don't like it when it's quite, it usually means there's a predator around. We used to try to keep the house silent when the birds were sleeping, but now we just go about our normal business after they're covered. Most noises won't bother them as long as the noise is familiar to them or it's a regular noise. It's sudden, unfamiliar noises that will scare them. Parrotlets are generally very quite sleepers, it's our 2 conures that sometimes move about & make noises after they're covered. They also are the ones that yell at us if we're TOO noisey!!! drats

Andy is right I go about my business and I have a fan that runs in there room at night, this helps if a thunderstorm comes during the night they don't hear it as well. Don't direct the fan at them just point it away from them.
