I was on kijiji (online classified ads) looking for a bigger bird cage and I found a bunch of really reasonably priced ones that Mochi would love.
But I also found this little guy who I think is adorable and he looks a little rough for wear... it says he is a "khaki bird" and I couldn't find anything about that on wikipedia or google. I would possibly want to get this bird but I'd want to know what he/she is first, and if I wouldn't but this bird specific bird if the breed has good temperment maybe in the future.

Kijiji Bird Ad

Also I found tons of cages, and will buy one. However I mentioned in passing I was in the market or a bigger bird cage to a couple of friends and both told me how they used to have budgies and still have their cage kicking around- so I may ask them if the cage is size appropriate.

EDIT: I also contacted the seller to ask them what this specific bird's temperament/volume level is like and if she means he is the breed "khaki- which I don't think exists. Hahaha. hide

EDIT x 2: I figured it out (2 hours of googling later) it's a Kakariki. Seems some view them as good apartment pets (they're quiet and not overly affectionate - which means no jealous Mochi) but they're also very active... to the point that one article said they really shouldn't be kept as pets unless they're in an aviary, which seems weird because I watched a youtube video of one and it was smaller than a Degu.)

I never looked at the pic Gail but I went to see OMGPosted Image that bird doesn't look healthy at all and if you do buy it I suggest a vet visit right away before it goes near you other bird. There's no excuse for having a cage that dirty. How can you expect a health happy bird when you make it live like that.

The respond I got back from the person is that it had been hand tamed but had to stay at her aunt's for a year and he aunt didn't take very good care of it and she no longer has time.
Apparently is quiet, but nips a bit (which I'm used to- I assure you). She also said she doesn't have time for her the bird which is likely why the cage is in such a mess...
any suggestions?

Also I know the bird looks really bad but I'm such a bleeding heart- I almost bought a super overpriced cockatiel from a pet-store that was going out of business because she had an egg bump and I doubted she would receive proper nutrition. :scared:

I am a bleeding heart too! I would be all over that in a heart beat...(much to my husbands dismay...lol!) I cannot stand to see any animal abused, neglected or just plain not loved...

Actually it's not even that the cage is that dirty(which it is) but it looks like it's made out of galvanized chicken wire or something... :(

go get him...
:)

I want to, I messaged the person from Kijiji and she replied (saying she was quiet :) ) and I sent her a message two days ago saying that I'm mobing in a week (5 days til I move now!) so I would need a week and a bit to settle in and then would call her to arrange a time to go pick her up.
She hasn't messaged me back (granted maybe she doesn't have internet access or time to access internet on weekends) because I had asked her to send me an emailing confirming it or no.

So I sent her a message again last night and rather than being like just stated that I thought maybe a spam-blocker prevent my reply from getting to her and I re-explained about moving and asked for confirmation of whether or not this bird could be mine and that I would call her once I'm moved in and her reply was that I can call her- nothing about whether this little girl will be mine.
So let's hope when I call in a week I will still be able to get her- or at least she's found a good home. (I don't wanna try and quarentine a bird while moving.)

Also reading up a kakariki's more I guess they can live up to 15 years but rarely make it longer than 5-7 and often die suddenly.
