We just stopped in at the store and saw 2 parrotlet boys up for adoption. eek I held both, seeing how they reacted to being handled and neck scritched and how hard they bit. They're about a year old and flighted. The gentler one we brought home and we were looking for advice on the best way to introduce them to each other. nod2 nod2 |

Congratulations on your new boy!! What's his name? We had this situation when we got Pesto after having had Boo for about six months. First we quarantined Pesto (we put him in another end of the house, in a different room). This allowed both of them to start to 'talk' to each other and get used to another parrotlet in the house. After Pesto's quarantine was over, we put him in a cage next to Boo. This is a good way for them to get used to each other. If all is going reasonably well at this point, introduce them away from kairi's cage or play gym or she'll be extra territorial. Be ready to swoop in and grab one of them if they get into a fight. They might start feeding each other right away, or they might starting chirping and fighting. If they do fight, don't get discouraged. Just put them back in their cages and try again. Eventually they should get used to each other. I know other people will have other methods to share, but this is what worked for Boo and Pesto. Now they share a cage :) |

If they start feeding each other, that's a good sign for them, even if it's not regurg? |

I have always took it that they are very friendly and getting on well, in budgies it seems different as all the budgies feed Budge at some point during the day but he does preen them all so I guess thats his payment , Babe will eat what Squeaker has brought up for him but not from his mouth, and Sky will always have a warm meal from Frank in the mornings. |

'Wigglenecking' is just as good. They don't have to actually feed each other. They also might start to instantly preen each other. Don't be surprised if any of this nice behavior is followed by a quick spat involving foot nipping. Just watch them and make sure it doesn't get out of hand. :) |

they might also show their wings to one another this is standard Parrotlet behaviour as well, it will be a bit more active than what Squeak is doing in the back of this video, normally they jump from perch to perch and will end up with wiggle necking and may be feet pulling. |

Well, Sora got away and flew around the aparment and over to Kairi's cage.. he was a VERY determined boy and I didn't think he could fly that well (I guess at the store he was too nervous)! eek  Our new apartment is pretty small, pretty much a studio apartment so I guess they couldn't resist each other. Kairi and Sora started chirping at each other as soon as Sora came out of the box the store had put him in. Since there was no quarantine anymore, we decided to let them be together and it's been going extremely well! Right now, they're both making quiet noises at each other while perched together on my shoulder. Just a little bit ago, Kairi was preening Sora and if we separate them, they start chirping to each other as loud as they can. They have fed each other and a couple times did a little nip at the foot squabble, just like mentioned above. |
