Hello
I've had lovebirds before, and cockatiels, budgie's and i've got a few zebra's at the moment. I'm looking at buying a pair of parrotlets and i woundered if this set up would be ok, its a 5ft long breeder cage so the sides top and bottom are made of wood now would they chew this? i know my lovebirds would have Its 15" square?
Also i've got some hazel branches i though it would be more intresting with them being all different thinknesses, do these guys fly or are they more climbers? any info would be great before i take the plunge! 2.gif
thankyou x

They are definitely flyers and yes they love to chew up things. Could you post a pic of your cage. It sounds very large, are you going to breed them??. If not intending to breed I would keep them seperate for taming because if they go together they may bond and want nothing to do with you.

Thankyou for your quite reply, heres a pic its the middle one i can removed the dividers, aparently they are an unrelated pair though this years so still babies. I'm starting to doubt now weather i should have them just cause i'm not sure if the cage is suitable, they could probably chew their way out!

If your able to open it wide it will work but yes they will chew on the wood frame if the can get to it.

Thankyou, as i thought they would probably chew the sliders where the diverders go and altough they probably wouldn't be able to squeeze out they may get their heads stuck and hurt themselfs.

humm all i have is this but i think its a bit small , i'm abit concerned about the little chaps as i don't think they are in a big cage and she has them housed with a budgie!

13" deep

23" wide

25" high

I agree with Kev that cage will work, just put in chewing toys and they will be happy :)

I agree with bonnie and kev, the cage does seem ok, i keep smurf and snoopy in a similar size cage with plenty of toys to chew their should be fine.

Thankyou, its hard when you don't really know the personailty of a species how active they are etc, i can always upgrade at a later date anyway, i've put the hazel branches in there so they can chew to their hearts content, i'll post some pics when i get them :)

I found a pair, well they are ment to be a pair this years unrelated but to be honest the women dones't sound very knowledgble, for what i gather shes not had them long and like i said in the previous post she has them housed with a budgie isn't that a bit err dodgy?

I've got a swing and a mirror with a bell on it too, going on the hunt now for more toys i take it they are very toy motivated then looking at other people's set ups they are jam packed!

No they really shouldn't be housed with a Budgie and if I were you I wouldn't put a mirror in there cage. She doesn't sound to knowledgeable about Parrotlets. You may want to look else where for a reputable breeder.

well i've sort of got my heart set now, and as shes not had them long i just hope she got them from a reputable breeder. I think sometimes people mean well, may i ask why you wouldn't put a mirror in? is it to do with territorial behaviour ? I've been reading and there is lots of info and pic on here which is great, you can find conflicting things on the net good to hear off people first hand. So other toys, rope pearches, ladders, what about plastic chains i had them for my Caique and she loved hanging off them.
