Temper tantrums?

This has been going on for a while (a few months), so I suspect it's behavioral rather than any kind of health concern... Belinda has these little fits a few times a day when she gets super puffed-up, ducks her head and dashes around the cage while shouting (rather shrilly). Sometimes she chases Custard, sometimes he stays out of the way and she just runs circles around the perches. Custard doesn't do this at all, but I'm wondering what it means that Belinda does. My best guess is that she wants attention? Admittedly, I haven't had much time to have them out of the cage in the last couple of months. Otherwise, I can't tell if she's just "emotional" or maybe a bit schizophrenic.... hide

Any ideas?

Adam my male does this sometimes I think he is scolding or trying to get Eve to interact with him. She is more quieter and he is the nut

Well, it could be something outside the cage upsets her or as Bon says, it could just be behavioral. either way, I agree with Bon Bon I don't think it's ahealth issue. Our male does it from time to time

It's good that you're observing their behavior though nodding 2.gif This is key to getting help fast if something really does go wrong 0163951

Interesting! Thanks for the replies, I'm a little relieved to know that other birds (parrotlets anyway) do it too. Custard has NEVER done it, but in general he's much more mellow than Belinda anyway. THP sounds accurate! rol

LOL! Oh dear. I suppose that's possible. Custard wiggle-necks for her sometimes and they seem to do a flirty dance once in a while. I've never actually caught them mating though. tuttut

I've been going through a similar problem with Mochi, except I think it's because he's moulting. I read that he has higher caloric and nutritional needs right now. Is there anything I can do to help the process along?
Also I've heard bathing him would help loosen up feathers but I don't think I could coax him into a bath. He's been really bad he bites me as soon as I go near his cage and he's puffing up and won't let me scratch him anymore.

Traci, you might want to give Mochi more protein (beans and legumes) and more calcium right now to help him get the nutrition he needs for his molt.

You can try misting him with a fine spray rather than bathing him. He might not like it at first, but he should get used to it. It should loosen the pins up a little.

He sounds like he's getting a little cage territorial too, if he's biting only when you go near his cage. Is he better when away from it?

Yeah he is very territorial about his cage right now, he usually is quite territorial over his cage but it's not an issue... I think he was in a really bad mood today because he usually looks out the window and I put up stickers because I was thinking he was looking at his reflection thinking it was another p-let. Do you think it would be wise to move his cage away from the window? I just feel bad because he really likes looking out the window even when there is no reflection.
