Hey,
Mochi has been haing super destructive behaviour (not surprisingly enough) And I had bought him this perch that is in theory a chew toy, but he can't tear it apart and aside from that everything else is plastic and non-destroyable. I feel like i should get him a new toy because i dont think its fair Ive been giving my baby toilet paper to play with. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions?
Also as much as Id love to spend a small fortune on Mochi, I just lost my job so cheaper the better drats  jumping for joy

That is a good shredding toy, Bonnie. They give you a lot on one roll so it lasts for a long time. nodding

Ya, money's super-tight for us too after I had a sudden job loss like that .. do you have Petco nearby? I picked up Kairi's favorite toy there for like $2-3 on clearance (it's a big paper tear-apart toy that she's had fun with for months) and see bird toys on clearance like that pretty often.

Also, I just yesterday made a couple chew toys for our guinea pigs and wonder if a p-let might not enjoy the same thing. I just took 4 or 5 sheets of plain paper, crunched one up, put it inside the next and crunched it up and so on until I had a pretty good sized ball. Maybe run a string through it and hang it up as a sort of pinata type toy for the littleangel to tear into? Maybe even tuck a treat or 2 that he likes inside?

Most of it lands back in the cage so its not too bad, you can tell when they have a good day chewing and ripping it as the cage is full of paper, best thing about the toy is it is free.

I once bought some coconut fibres thinking they would love to preen it, yes they loved preening it but far far too messy

I give my pair some egg carton (not the foam kind, of course) to demolish. They love shoving it around the cage and chewing off chunks of it.

Aww thanks everyone for the great ideas :-) I will be sure to try them out.
Just worried with telephone book, just knowing birds are so sensitive to everything that the ink might make him sick; but is squeak and bubbles are all right then I'm not to concerned.

Since Im not sure where the phone book is, and we don't have eggs at the moment (I've bought the last two cartons and am holding out for a roommate to get some) I've given mochi a toilet paper roll. He's so afraid of it right now! But he will attack it soon, it's right by his highest perch :)

The cardboard out of the centre of a kitchen roll
is also usefull...
Mine crawl threw it...
Also when Sky and Mint are out together I
just place a piece of kitchen roll over something,
they luv it ,and play for ages ripping it to shreds...
Ive found mine like stuff I find for them rather than
ready made toys..

My vet told me sometimes the glue they use on the kitchen rolls (paper towels) can be harmful to birds. I think it has zinc or something...I'm not sure. I just look at them first and if I don't see any old glue then I figure it's okay :)

Just make sure there isn't any glue on them.

Kimberly-Clark's statement regarding this adhesive says:

"Although the core glue is safe for its intended use, it is not intended to be ingested. It is not food grade and does not meet indirect food contact regulations. Therefore, we cannot recommend that it be used with pets".
