Hi, I'm new to the board and have a question for the breeders on here:

How long after a parrotlet hatches can it be sexed?

I was able to see the blue on the wing tips and rump area around day 17 with mine. You have to look closely though!

I'm not breeding. I'm going over to a breeder next weekend to pick out my baby, they hatched about a week ago but I wont be able to bring it home for another three weeks or so.

Are there any personality differences between males and females? I think I read somewhere that there are, but I cant remember where I found that information or what it is.

A Parrotlet should be weaned before bringing it home so this would make it over eight weeks old, and maybe upto 9 or 10 weeks old before some fully wean.

I have a male Parrotlet and he is about as sweet as they come. They do say that males are more prone to talking if that is any concern to you. Also once you pick out your Parrotlet, if the breeder is agreeable I would highly recommend that you visit him and get to know him before you bring him home. It just makes the transformation that much easier for them and the bonding process will start that much sooner! :)

Yes as Kev said please don't take the baby too early anything younder than 8 weeks and the baby could regress. It will be leaving the other babies and into a new home, this could make it a little insecure fora few days. If it goes off the seed it doesn't take long before they could starve if you don't know how to hand feed formula to it. Not trying to scare you but we had a member who's baby went through this.
