I cover all of my birds, I get up at 5:15 am and if they weren't covered they would start waking up way too early just by seeing me moving about the house. I want them to get at least 11 hours of sleep. I'm very quiet and don't turn on any lights other than the night lights that stay on all night but if they saw me they would start waking up :) Another thing is my apartment is very small so they can all see me  Some members don't cover there birds and I didn't use to but I had a large bird room that was away from the living area of my house.

As Bonnie has posted...it has a lot to do with where in the house your birds are located. :)

Mine are in my living room and as I said I cover them at 7.30 whether they go to sleep then or not I dont know, but they dont make any noise so I take it they are either asleep or resting. To be honest Bubble and Squeak are sat on their perch ready for bed about 6pm and at about 20 past seven Pickle starts squawking to be covered. The budgies on the other hand would wittier away all night if left to their own devices. :)

I cover my birds up in the living room by about 21.00, but the birds in the spare room i just turn the light out for them, so i agree it is alot to do with where they are suituated in the home. :)

Trish...mine are all in my family room and I don't cover any of them.. It has never been a problem for me. They are put in their cages at 9:00 pm every night and go to sleep. No covers...I think it's up to each individual to cover or not and what's best for their situation.....

If you haven't been covering them and don't have any problems with them getting enough sleep, then I wouldn't start now..just my opinion.. :)

I don't cover Tino up. His playtime with me is normally late evening as I work till 6.00pm. He refuses to go to bed before I do too (he really is the boss), but he wakes whenever he wants. He seems fine with this. I assume if he needed any more rest, he would just do it???

You are right Neil...When I'm home on the weekends my birds will take "cat" naps throughout the day. Think about it...who covers them in the wild...lol! just kidding!

All of our guys are covered around 8 PM. They are so used to it now that they scream and chirp if we don't cover them right at 8!

I know our conures would never go to sleep if we didn't cover them, but I think the parrotlets would be ok....they are good sleepers! :)
