Aggression Problem

I've had my parrotlet, Mochi, for about two months, he was hand-raised. I met the breeder and visited Mochi on-site before taking him home and one of the reasons I choose him because he was the most docile and affectionate birds out of his siblings.
He was very calm, and friendly when I first brought him home but then for a while I was having an aggression problem with him and whenever I would handle him in my living room, which is everyday, he would be so distracted trying to get to a mirror he would completely ignore me - and we had done some bonding at this point.
I e-mailed the breeder about this problem and he suggested I cover up the mirror in my living room (which worked), and also take out all the mirrors from his cage.
He had 3 mirrors in his cage and when I took out the last one he was standing on the mirror and attacking me. He had always shown hostility towards my roommates, but ever since I took his mirrors away he has been showing hostility towards me.
He will no longer step-up, and has started biting.
When I do hold him, he is still very affectionate and likes to be scratched but he sometimes tries to fly away (his wings are clipped so he can't go very far) and often seeks refuge in hiding in my hair, which he has loved to go in since I got him.

I know that was very long-winded but I just thought it necessary to provide as much info as I could...
I am just not certain why my relationship with my parrotlet is failing and what initiative I could take to repair it.

EDIT: I just realized that this thread is for Health Advice only, sorry for some reason I thought it encompassed general questions too. I am very sorry for this.

This isn't the first time someone has posted about mirrors and aggression. Sounds like no good can come from putting a mirror in a Parrotlet's cage! :(

Cricket has never had a mirror in his cage and I never put any "reflective" toys in his cage either for this very reason.

The only advice I can give you is to be very patient with him. He probably feels like you took his "mate" away from him and it will take time for him to get over it. Be gentle but firm with him and try not to let him think he is getting the uppper hand with you.

Good luck!! :)

Good advice Gail :) he does feel as though he lost his mate and it will take time for him to re bond with you.

They're amazingly strong willed birds, I've found with my Kairi. nod2 Time & patience is what I'd say too. Has there been any changes to her sleeping time?

Thanks for all the help, the advice has made me realize other things I've been doing wrong - like working out in the same room as him must intimidate him a lot too.
Also I don't think his sleeping schedule was affected, but when I walked into my room a minute ago (almost 11pm) he was wide awake.

I'd try to give about 12-14 hours sleep time per night From what I've read and been told by p-let owners, not getting enough sleep can affect both their attitude and health. Kairi's got a 9-9:30 bedtime, so she's learned about when to grab a bedtime meal because the cover will be on soon. We're trying to be more consistent with her schedule than we used to be.

I would also try and get him to sleep more, you may well be better covering him at night, all my birds are covered at the same time at 7.30 at night but then I do get up at 6.30,

Cricket goes to bed on his own at 8:00 on the dot every night. No cover needed.. :)

The others would stay up and party all night if I let them!
