The story starts Friday. I dropped and broke the 'tiels crock for cooked food. I liked it because it was shallow and if they wanted to they could all eat at once. I thought I'd get them a new one Saturday. Ok, it starts the Saturday before really, but I didn't know it. Kevin says I can't tell a story, so keep that in mind please, lol.

A week ago Saturday, we went to the indoor swapmeet. We go every few weeks. There was a lady there that sold great bird seed, and Roudybush, and cages for fairly cheap. She isn't there anymore eek But I hear birds down the way and go look. A new guy with baby tiels, Suns, lovies, and a U2. The 'tiels and U2 were begging and the Sun didn't stop eating some cruddy seed he had. Even though the guy had healthy birds, clean new breeder cages and featherbrite lights, I was sad to see the diet. So nosey me told him what I feed, gave him info for online and the local aviculture society and left after playing with the Sun and Sunday (Jenday/Sun). So I was a little bummed when we left. Kevin knows I go to one Petco to play with their Sun and my friend has a few too, but never thought of getting one because we have Pandora whose very good but still loud. Once in a while, I'll rescue a loud bird but only in dire straits and to find better homes for them.

Fast foward to this Saturday... I go out shopping here and there, bought some fabric since I got a custom order for a bird bag for a Sun jumping for joy jumping for joy Posted Image

and when I get home I see this:

HE SURPRISED ME!!! Kev brought her/him home in a new breeder cage, but said he ordered me a cage too! I'm in LOVE! It's 4 months old, or that's what the guy said last week. The only thing is, Kevin didn't quarantine at all. :( I don't think he even thought of it really because I quarantined Max so I think he forgot all about it. The only birds it didn't come in contact with were the 'tiels. I couldn't say anything though, he was so happy. I'm just praying everything's good and we get lucky. We'll take it to Dr. K to ease my mind and a well bird check. So, here's Calypso or Chili, we haven't decided yet...

Posted Image Eating good food like a champ!

I gave it a few toys I'd made, but it needed a new crock and I needed a replacement for the 'tiels. So to Petco we go. We get inside and a man asks me if I live in an apt or house. That was strange so I answer automatically a house. Then I notice he's got a puppy. Oh Oh! He got the puppy for his family not knowng he can't have a pit bull in the apt. eek and needs to find it a good home. By this time Kevin and Tabitha (my oldest) have the identical PUPPY DOG LOOKS on their faces. drats The man's been all day with a toddler and pregnant wife looking for a GOOD home. I give him my number and get his and tell him in case he changes his mind or moves. They all give me a look like HUH? I said in case he want's it back since we'll take her. Then 3 men come in, see the puppy and ask if it's for sale. He's got a male the same color at home and wants a female to breed. The owner said no, I just sold my last one to them. He offers 400.00 then 450.00 but the guy says no. He offers us 500.00 We say sorry. The owner has food and toys and while we get them, I meet the wife and offer to give the puppy back if he want's the money. He told me no, he could've sold her several times, but I'd said we had one older pit, a big yard, she'd be an inside dog, I'll obedience train her, and she'd get neutered and shots. So here we are, two pets in one day!

Here's LOLA (after the Kinks song, lol)

Quite a weekend!
I'll be picking you conure owners' brains if that's ok? First thing, do they get louder when they get older? It's not that bad right now. With the colors, does it match the age he gave as 4 months? Are the diet requirements any different, more calcium, less fat, etc? And the wings are very clipped, not just a baby clip. I leave our birds flighted so I can't remember how long it takes to grow the flight feathers all in. Is it about 4-6 months or am I way off? She (I'm saying she for now) has one on each side that's about 1/3 grown in. Someone thought it was ok for her to bite on fingernails so that's the first thing we'll work on. I've been keeping a toy or treat in my hand to exchange for fingers. Anything else I should do for it? I guess it's time to join Buuz's group!

Jan, I sure didn't think it stood for that! giggle giggle
We named the puppy Lola, from the Kinks song because even a girl pit bull looks, well ... manly? lol! But I personally think she should have been named Poopy! It's been about 10 years since we had a pup in the house. So far I'm minus one complete plant, and another looks like it's been through a wood chipper. eek Good thing she can't reach my orchids! eek Since our old boy thinks he's a puppy again, he rolled in the dry grass and must have spread it on every inch of carpet. So that's what I get asking Tabitha to watch them for a couple hours while I went to school. Angry Sile What were we thinking!?!! drats

It's a toss up with the Sun. Either Calypso or Chili. I like Calypso since we already have Pandora so the whole Greek mythology thing. We don't know if it's a he or she, but I think Calypso sounds like either even though it's a goddess. It's better than Persephone or Hephaestus. rofl I think Kevin likes Chili because it's one of his favorite foods. I don't know if thats a good thing or not! eek
