Most of you know that I recently adopted a rescue bird from the store where I got my Parrotlet, Cricket.

I emailed him last night and asked him about quarantine issues. Basically if it was necessary. He told me that Pebbles came from a one bird house and that he was at his store for over 3 weeks and showed no sign whatsoever of any kind of illness.

I really want to let him in the same room with my other birds. He's so lonely in the den all by himself.

What to you guys think?

If he was an only bird and was vetted by his former owner Gail he can go in with your birds. The chances of him having anything are almost nil :)

Its up to you Gail , the chances are that pebbles is fine and has no problems what so ever. you could have him tested and have the results back in a week if you were concerned :)

As kevin posted, you can have him tested and get the results back quickly. At his age, he's probably fine, but if it were me, i wouldn't want to put my others at any risk. where was he when at the shop for the 3 weeks and what contact did he have in that 3 weeks? I know its hard to see him alone, but use the time to build your bond with him and get him extra comfy with you guys. when the tests come back... go for it :)

Personally if it was me i would not risk it, but if you have him tested and things came back ok i then i do not see why not. :)

Paul at the store had him in a separate room but did let him come out on the stores playstand once in awhile.... He wasn't at all concerned. Pebbles was one of his hand fed babies and went to a home where there were no other birds and had the same owner for 7 years. So...I'm sure he's fine.

But I am taking him for a vet check and tests next week. Just for further confirmation! nodding

I truly believe he's very safe Gail and I wouldn't be afraid with being a ONE bird home because he hasn't had any contact with ANY birds. Jo Jo was a one bird in his home when I adopted him and he had vet papers showing he had been tested . I put him right in with my other birds knowing he wasn't carrying anything. But if you have doubts have him checked....I guarantee he will come back negative :) :)

I'm sure he will too Bonnie! Paul wouldn't have even taken him in his store if he thought there was anything wrong. He has way too much to lose by bringing a sick bird in his store.

But...I am still going to have him tested just for peace of mind! lol! I worry a lot (as if you didn't already know that! LOL!)

     Your vet needs to check him over anyhow and yes I agree Paul would not take in a bird he thought could have anything he has too many birds to put in danger of wiping him out :)

If he came from a one-bird-home & a good pet store, I wouldn't worry about quarantine Gail. The only time we quarantine a bird is if we don't know the birds history.

We quarantined our parakeet Pteri as he flew in from outside so who knows what the heck he'd been exposed to  :scared: :scared: That's probably the most important time to quarantine nodding

Yes you need need to quarantine a bird who arrives at your home from the outside :) A single owned bird with no other bird contact are very unlikely to have disease.
