Today, we got a pair of budgies and I read to quarantine them for 30 days. But tonight, I had Kairi on my shoulder and without thinking went into the room the budgies are in. drats drats drats I was in there about 5 minutes before Stacy saw Kairi and I remembered. Did we break quarantine or is it still ok?

You should be fine as he hasn't been on the cages or eat their food or been too near them :)

Well, we found out today that one of the budgies with "clipped wings" as they were sold did NOT have all her flight feathers clipped when she flew into the other room today and landed on Kairi's cage. In hindsight, I should've looked but it didn't even occur to me and yesterday was the first day we even handled them or brought them out of the cage. drats drats drats She went climbing all over the cage until I finally caught her. yellow1

I was taught to wash, change clothes and shoes and keep the pet in an isolated room. But unless you have a different air system for the room, there's no way to keep them safe from airborn disease really. It's more to keep safe from contact, like fecal or saliva, or aerosol contaminations, like sneezes and coughs. Most things we bring into the house from our shoes and hands. I know what you're going through! With our new addition there was no quarantine at all! :scared: And a sick bird can look healthy we all know that. I'm still getting her tested, but the cats out of the bag. crying You were told they were clipped, but these little guys can get a lot of flight even clipped. so don't beat yourself up!

This is very true, I always tell people to be sure to wash there hands and use none of the same feeding dishes. it's nice if you have a large shirt that can easily be changed too so you are only wearing that shirt with the new bird.

Ya, we've been washing hands with no-scent/perfume hand soap and changing clothes after any contact with the budgies or anything of theirs. They've got their own everything and in our small apartment we knew there wasn't any chance of an airborne quarantine. but were following the general contact quarantine same as when getting a new guinea pig or fish.

Kairi's cage is the highest thing in the apartment and Ariel was more than happy to perch on top of it. yellow1 She managed to land on about everything along the way too. drats She was having a great time. smug

Wow, Dave.....you're a model pet owner. You even quarantine your fish! I can't say I've ever done that, but it's good! :)

Dave I used to breed Angel fish, Discus, Bettas and I ordered them from all over the world and have them shipped to me to get great breeding pairs. You can bet I quarantined them before allowing them into my breeding tanks :)

I can see why you quarantined your breeders, Bonnie!

Gail, you mean they already quarantined them at the shop you bought them from? It would be hard to do it at home unless they were really small or you had some huge tanks laying around. :)

We had expensive salt water fish when we had our reef tank, but they were all from a shop that was so clean (sort of like Omar's but a fish shop) so fortunately we never had any problem putting them all in the tank together.
