Hi there, I'm new to the forum and parrotlets in general. I'm thinking of getting one but it won't be until early July time when I'll be in a new home. Until then I'm reading as much as I can and planning it all. I've got one major problem though, where to get the bird from! http://www.parrotlets-online.co.uk/cgi-bin/breeders.cgi: This website has a breeders directory on it and I'm hoping that maybe some of the UK members will possibly be able to give me some input on any of them. Particularly the two Yorkshire ones and the Derbyshire. If it comes to it I'll contact Tracy-Ann & Sue but they're quite far away and I'm not a keen long distance driver. So yeah, any help would be great! Thank you! (Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find anywhere more suitable! Sorry) |

Thanks :) Do you have any information on the york breeder? I may attend that show, not to buy just to look. |

Thanks Gail, I spent time on here yesterday as a guest just reading threads so I know everyone knows their stuff. Also it's months till I plan on getting one so I'm sure by the time it comes to actually choosing a breeder I'll have plenty of information from all UK owners. |

Also just to let you know, if you contact Tracy and Sue, they will deliver a bird to you at a very reasonable price. They have a driver who delivers in his own van, and I think he charges £5 an hour plus petrol costs. But I don't think they have any parrotlets available right now. The pet shop where i got Scooby,Skyand Smurf has closed down, which i am very sad about, but i know another breeder where i got my meyers parrot and my conure from and i know he was breeding parrotlets this year so i will let you know if he was successfull. The bird shows are very good i got snoopy from the last bird show and she is a excellent little parrotlet :) :) Edited by scooby, Jan 18 2009, 09:15 PM.

Neil, at that kind of cost how much would it be to get to Sheffield do you think? (No idea what kind of MPG a van does.) I wondered if he'd meet half way....It's an option. Right now isn't when I want one, July is. So far away! Jacqueline, if you could let me know when you know that would be great :) Edited by Harry_Mac, Jan 19 2009, 01:57 PM.

I'm in a very similar situation, actually! Won't be looking into actually getting a parrotlet until around September (fun doing research in the meanwhile) when I'll be moving to Milton Keynes, and having so much difficult finding breeders. |

Sorry about the slow reply. Anyway, Newport to Sheffield is approx 190 miles, and 3 1/4 hour journey, which equates to a 380 mile 6 1/2 hour round trip. If you say fuel is about £5 a gallon with a 30mpg return, I'd assume the cost would be in the region of £95-£105 including a 1 way charge across the bridge into Wales. They don't normally do multi-drops, so you would pay the full amount. Give them a call for a more accurate price. I thought about having a bird delivered from them to Manchester, but due to having my own works van, I could "lose" the diesel costs. I'm very glad I went in person actually, because the knowledge they pass on is invaluable. Also you can see if any of the birds "choose" you. It's worth the trip. And I'm almost certain they'd meet half-way if you wished. Edited by neil29, Feb 1 2009, 02:53 PM.

Thanks for that Neil I've found a breeder in east yorks and I've asked to visit around Easter to see their birds, if that goes well I'll get birdy from there otherwise I'll definitely look into going to wales. |
