Has the baby not been weaned yet ??? if it has not please take it back to the breeder now ! if the baby is over 8 weeks old it should be weaned, were you not given any info on the bird at all ? as in its age. You can buy some cockatiel seed or if you can get it in your area lovebird /grass parakeet mix there are plenty of evgs that you can feed him, broccoli apple sweetcorn peppers |

If your baby isn't eating by all means take it back to the breeder or store where you got it. If it's 8 weeks old it should be eating on it's own. If it isn't old enough and regresses it can be fatal to your bird very quickly eek |

The parrotlet handbook is readily available i have seen a couple of books in pets at home and you can also get plenty of the internet , I see you live in west yorkshire , I live in york in north yorkshire, this is a very informative website and the people are always willing to help. :) |

I wouldn't use gloves you may scare him and he will have a fear of hands, It's better to take a few bites and let him get used to you. |

I agree i would not use gloves as birds find gloves very scary, as Jan said time and patience is needed for parrotlets , and this is so true as many of us will tell you on this forum but it is worth it in the end :) |

I agree...I've never used gloves for the reason that Bonnie and Scooby have said. You will never gain his trust that way. I've been tempted a few times with my Grey though! lol... nodding |

Here's a small list of foods that are toxic to birds............ Chocolate, alcohol, avocado, salt, yeast dough, coffee, tea, colas & other beverages with caffeine,. Avoid feeding apple seeds or the pits from cherries, plums, apricots & peaches. Onions & garlic can also pose toxicity risk to certain birds. There is a full list here on the forum in the nutrition section. nod2 |

I use a very soft suede glove with Mint... But its not cos' she nips.. she does nip... Its so I dont hurt her leg.. She luvs the glove jumps into it when I go into the cage.. You'll get yours out with out gloves just take time and chat to the bird all the time.. Jan |
