Sccoby and Sky are about 1 year old now , and I was planning on breeding them next summer, but I am a bit concerned about sky's behaviour. Over the last couple of weeks she has been going under the sheet on the bottom of the cage and been making funny growling noises, at first i thought she was just playing , but when I cleaned the cage out i was shocked to find under the sheet a small mound of chewed up paper and loads of little features some from sky which were white and some from scooby which were green , it looked like a little nest, do you think she is trying to build a nest under the sheet in the cage? I though parrotlets only nested in nesting boxes .As any body else found this happening before.  :) |

What kind of sheet is at the bottom of the cage, Jacqueline? All of the paper in my cages is underneath the grate at the bottom of the cage. It does sound like she might be making a nest. Is she being extra territorial about this new area? I've read that in the wild parrotlets are not fussy about their nesting areas, so they don't have to have a nest box necessarily, but they seem to breed best in them. |

At the bottom of scooby and sky's cage is 2 large sand sheets. sky seems to chew the sand of it and then chew the paper in really little bits and then takes it under the sheets. She has been a little bit aggressive just lately but i thought that was just been a parrotlet. I think she must be getting broody rofl rofl rofl |

As Laura said birds do strange things, just because they don't have a nest box does not mean they won't lay eggs or try to make there own nest. Not real sure if letting her chew on that sand paper is very safe though. |
