Well what can I say but Bubbles was out and decided to go and visit Squeak who proceeded to bite her toe at the first joint I opened the cage to get him off her as he was still holding on to her he then came out of the cage and attacked her again the little b*****d I managed to get hold of her and put her in her cage when I noticed her toe was hanging off. So I rushed her to the vet where they amputated it. The vets called out an avian vet which is part of the deal with joining them, who operated on her this evening, she put her under using gas ( i wanted to watch but wasn't allowed :( ) and took the toe off . Squeak had bitten through the bone it was just left hanging by a tendon, she also gave her fluids and pain killers and chemically cauterised the end of the toe to stop the bleeding. She was a little sleepy when she came out but soon woke up and started eating. Sometimes sundays are crap and expensive !!! :) |

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I hope bubbles is ok now :( I cant bear to see lil feathers fly off let alone a bit of the toe I wish her a speedy recoveryy Rhea :( |

Awe my god poor bubbles :( :( i have had a few feet accidents, but nothing to that extent I wish bubbles a fast recovery. what was sqeak thinking about tuttut tuttut |

Geez, that's terrible. I hope Bubbles recovers quickly and doesn't lose too much mobility or strength. :( |

Bubbles is asleep now, probably sharpening her beak ready for her medicine in the morning, she has to have 0.05mlof baytril twice daily and 0.03 of metacam once daily these are the most common medicines given to birds. |

To be honest its not uncommon to see Parrotlets with toes missing, they do get quite nasty at times with their partners but I have never seen Squeak behave like this before. I am hoping that in time they will be able to go back together again, once he has got over Pickle being removed. This is how much she has lost !!! Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about Bubbles! crying Gretel is missing a toe right at that same joint, she's fine and can grip well. I hope she doesn't bite you too much when giving her the meds. Do you wrap her in a towel or just hold her? |

She had her meds this morning and it was quite easy as soon as I fot the syringe near her she went to bite it and she got her meds and she swallowed them all rather than shaking her head around |

blue2 LOL with their meds... They dont know its med do they? Mint as you say grabs the piont and down it goes.. Hope your bird is ok soon... Mint cant fly or perch yet.. still in the plastic tub... Fingers crossed.. Good luck Kev.. Jan nod2 |

Hi Jan It might be a good idea to mount a perch in the plastic tub, mount it low to the bottom say half inch this will give her the chance to get up on it but as its low and I guess you have kitchen towels on the bottom she will not hurt herself if and when she falls off. she will then start to try to perch as I guess this is more comfy for them. Bubbles is ok she's perching no problem she has found it harder I guess to cling to the side of the cage to sleep at night, as last night she slept on a perch :) |
