I am still trying to tame Lola, (have given up on Charlie) but having zero luck. She will happily sit in the cage chewing on me but still the only way i can get her out is to grab her, and the only way she will stay with me is if i hold her. Posted Image Is there any treat or something that i can bribe her with? Like the parrollet equivalent to catnip? Edited by abby, Nov 11 2008, 01:15 PM.

They do love it you're right, but they always have some in their cage anyway so it's not a special treat. |

You shouldn't really always have Millet in the cage, I only give millet once a week. |

Oh really? Why is that? I usually put a strand in twice a week as they love it so much. They are so fussy with everything else other than their cockatiel mix, fruit and veg wise the only thing they actually seem to eat are grapes, everything else just gets flicked around the cage. |

They will always choose Millet over there regular food. It can cause them to gain too much weight. Sort of like sunflower seed they can cause medical problems if the bird is allowed to eat too many. I would suggest only 1 millet sprig per week. |

I am going by what the avian vet I worked for had told numerous bird owners when they came in. I think Kev has said it before also. |

Mine love hemps seeds as a treat. If you can get her to eat out of your hand that would be great. When training my babies I purposely don't put millet in their cages too often, just so I can still use it as a bribe out of the cage :) |

Thanks, I will go to the pet shop tommorrow. She will eat from my hand in the cage but once out of it she just won't come near me voluntarily. She seems to be getting less friendly as she grows up. |

All mine get millet once a week, none of my Parrotlets have been that bothered with it and hardly touch it, yet the budgies will strip it down until there is nothing left but the stalk. Is that cooked hemp or just the raw seed Laura ? Abby you could try the dried fruit from Tescos they have lots of different types in small packets at 38p each so its not going to cost a fortune to get some to try, Once you have found something that they do really like only give it to them for treats never put it in the cage, as than it wont be a treat. This is what you want from a treat

Kev, the hemp seed is dried and 'sterilized' seed (they don't want us growing the stuff! ) I just found this link to a place in the UK where you can get samples of seeds including hemp... http://www.streetendfeeds.co.uk/trialpacks.php |
