Thanks Dave, and congrats yourself. How's the little guy adjusting so far? I'm not very good with big cities, usually all I see of Denver is the view from I-25. rol My Custard and Belinda are still super hand-shy, so it's tough working with them. Considering they're already a year and a half old, have been through two owners and a breeder before me, and they're very bonded to one another, I don't expect any fast results. Also, it doesn't help that I haven't been able to work with them for the last week because of plumbing problems (the bathroom's the safest place for our one-on-one time) that my apartment's management is taking its sweet time on. :( Where in Denver did you get your bird? I couldn't find a place that carried or bred parrotlets while I was searching. |

Frodo's doing pretty good, He knows how to step-up but would rather perch on my shoulder so we're working on that. But at least he's learned to mostly not bite now. They sure are strong willed so I can imagine how it's going to take time and patience with a pair that's bonded and had multiple owners before you. We actually found him at a Petco. We went in on black friday to pick up some bedding for the guinea pigs and when we checked out we took a look at the adoption table and they told us an older lady had dropped off 2 male parrotlets because they were too much for her. The more aggressive one had been adopted but the one who'd been picked on was left. I came home and looked up some info on parrotlets, one site I found was this forum, then went back to adopt him. Down the road a bit, I might consider breeding if I'm sure I can care for them properly. The hardest part will be giving them up to new homes. I hardly ever get out of the city and we've thought about moving down to the Springs but it's just not been an option for us yet. |

That's great that the little guy is already so tame. And good for you, choosing to adopt a bird. That's admirable. :) My fids are going to take lots and lots of work, but that's okay. I'm not exactly made of time, so I'm actually glad that they're somewhat self-sufficient in terms of emotional and attention demands. They'll never be strongly bonded to me, but I'd be happy getting the the point where they like me and aren't afraid of being handled. Colorado Springs is getting to be a bigger and bigger city, but it still doesn't feel like it. All said, we have a very nice state in general. |

Well, Kairi (now that we know he is a she) is right beside and above my computer desk and I work for a company in Aurora from the apartment so she 'll get lots of time watching me on the computer. I do have a cover for her cage, even though she doesn't like me to put it on, since my hours can often be into the early AM. CO Springs sounds like my hometown of St. Augustine, FL .. still feels small even with a boom of growth. It's been a few years since I made my way down to the springs, but I remember all the new housing I saw going up along 25. |
