Hi everyone! I am new here and wanted to say hello! I got my first parrotlet about 2 weeks ago. He is a pastel blue and I have not decided on a name yet. I should call him Little Biter!! I got him from littletweet.com and the lady told me he was 2 months old and handfed ("pet quality" --"adorable, sweet, and calm"). I was not happy to find out that he is not tame at all the way she implied he was!! Every time I put my hand in his cage to change out his food or water or try to scratch his head, he tries to bite me! I cannot pick him up at all. On top of all that, she sent me a picture of the bird she was supposedly sending me and he is definitely not the same bird! Beware of this site if you are looking to buy a parrotlet for a pet! She would not do anything to make it right either! I am really disappointed considering how much money I spent. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can tame him without getting my finger bitten off?!?! I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks! blue1

Hi Christy, welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on your new baby. The pastel blues are gorgeous. It sounds like he might be scared or is being cage territorial. When you change the food and he comes over to bite you, what else is he doing? Is he fluffed up or any other body language? Is he chirping? If you could let us know it will help.

Also what is his cage like...does he play with toys?

He may just be scared as Laura said, have his wings been clipped? It takes time to gain the trust of a new bird. Try just opening the cage door to see if he will come out on his own. Would love to see a pic of him and his cage.
