I made this forage toy for Pandora yesterday. It cost about $5 at the dollar store for the raffia, balls and bowls. My in-laws cut some mesquite down and gave me the branches and I got the corn husks at the grocery store. I have more husks. branches and raffia at the top but you can't see it in the pic. Posted Image She figured out how to open the bowls out right away. I hid treats in the corn husks and tied them in a knot. Posted Image She hasn't found out I hid treats in the balls yet. Posted Image I think it was a hit. nodding |

lol! At first when I saw this post I thought that toy was for your Parrotlet! I was thinking to myself..."a little over kill here" Then I realized that Pandora is your Cockatoo! She's beautiful!!!! PS...forgot to say ...that's a great toy!!! Well done! Edited by Gardengail, Nov 9 2008, 06:38 PM.

Wow, that's a really impressive toy! Pandora's a very lucky bird! Have you ever tried denim for bird toys?? I seem to have several pairs of worn out jeans sitting around and I'd love to make something fun for my p'lets out of them. |

That's an idea, maybe strips of denim with the threads hanging loose. I bet they'd like that nodding 2.gif |

Great, I'll give it a try! I'd be curious what materials people make their bird toys out of, I always seem to have scraps of all sorts of things lying around. I know some p'let toys are made out of cotton, but I wasn't sure if the dyes might be problematic/hazardous to the birds? |
