Congratulations Neil!!!!! :bana: :bana: :bana: jumping for joy jumping for joy jumping for joy jumping for joy He looks so sweet!! What a cute little peanut!!! The cage you bought won't go to waste! You can take him outside with you in a cage like that.

True. Not only that, the travel cage he came in has been earmarked as a miniature hamster cage for my dad. giggle

He is still a bit wary of fingers at the minute. He will gladly sit there on my finger, but when I go the tickle him he is wary of me. He'd rather jump onto my chest or shoulder and sit there. He also hasn't wandered out of his cage on his own yet, I've had to try to get him to step up to bring him out of the cage. But it's all new to him, so I guess he's just slowly settling in.

I wish I'd got a parrotlet years ago. Again tonight, he needed to be lifted out of his cage. But once out he just wanted to be tickled/scratched and wanted to get under my shirt collar. He's not the most accomplished flier yet, but he does fly from person to person already. This really surprised me as the cockatiel I had was a one person only bird. And the little chirps are so funny. Sometimes when I tickle him he seems to purr like a kitten also. But after playing he really didn't want to go back in his cage. When I tried to place him in there he just kept running up my arm. I will never buy a parent reared bird again, as this guy is so friendly already with all the work Tracy-Ann and Sue have put in.

p.s. he's 8 weeks old, and like I said not yet the best flier. How long will it be till he's whizzing about like a true pro?

I'm not sure Neil...I keep mine clipped. Only for his own safety. I have two other large Parrots and I don't want him flying into anyone's mouth... eek

There are a lot of other people here that can tell you that..

Just a suggestion. He's at the age now where he is taking everything in...start talking to him. Say a phrase over and over again to him and then make some kind of noise that is pleasing to his ears. That's what I did with Cricket and he was talking in no time. If I remember correctly he was talking at 9 or 10 weeks.

PS....Have you heard the "displeasure" sound they make yet? LOL!

I am trying to get him talking already yes. I got a male for that very reason, as I heard it's more common for them to talk? And I'm assuming the "displeasure" sound is similar to the purring only louder? He seemed to make a noise like that when he didn't want to go near my finger.

He's also eating LOADS. Mostly the seed mix and millet, but not so much the pulses and fruit. I hope I'm doing it right for him. At the minute I'm using ready cooked frozen pulse I got from Tracy-Ann, thawing it out and putting some EMP on it and a little fruit. I'm also peeved that his big cage still hasn't turned up yet, so I'm glad I got him the temporary one.

LOL...Not to worry ...he is fine in the cage you have until the big one comes! Actually he's probably better in the smaller one right now.

Have you tried raw brocolli and fresh apple, raspberries and kiwi?

Yeah...the displeasure sound is when you scratch the back of their neck and you hit a pin feather and they will let you know just what you did! tuttut

Only fruit and veg I've tried so far is tomato, cucumber, pear, apple and grape, but I'll try some of the others suggested soon. He also has vitamins in his water. nodding

p.s. I'm getting a bit of a cold/flu and wondered if I could pass this onto Tino if I get too close? Anyone know if it's ok to continue handling him with a cold? Thanks, Neil.

Hi Everyone........and hello Neil,

Sorry weve no been on for a long while, but the puppies chewed through our broad band power cabel and the new one has onloy arrived today.Im hoping i can catch you before you log off Neil, just to say its was a pleasure to meet you,and im so pleased Tino is doing so well,so soon.
Didnt know you were so into motor bikes..lol.........I am too,but sadly i dont own one or ride one these days. All is set to change though, much to Sues dissaproval,Im going to get myself a nice trike.I dont like cars much, and only manage as a passenger, but would never want to drive one myelf. With the commitment of the shop, and it getting busier and busier by the week,I need to get my own transport asap,so I can be independent from Sue,who is the only driver at present. It will make such a difference with my driving too, especially now Sue and I are working at the shop from 9am-7pm mon-sat and 10am-4pm on sun. With the long hours, and all the breeding, and baby birds to feed and maintain, its getting very difficult with Sue having to pick me up and drop me off every day going to and fro the aviaries inbetween running of the shop 7 days a week.
But like i mentioned when i met you,its way passed a passion now! people say its more like a desease..lol Its very very contagious for me and others....lol
Dont worry to much about the pulses at this point hun.Just add more of the seed into the mix and less pulses until he eats more of it.Then gradually add less seed and more pulses a little at a time.Eventually you will have 75% pulses and the rest seed, fruit and veg, with added Emp and the vitamin powder sprinkled into it.Some Parrotlets relish pulses imediately, and others take a little longer, but stick with it,as it is the healthier option for him.If hes not into them at all,try massing them up with a fork like i mentioned,or failing that, try him on the Beak apetite from www.24parrot.com unil you find his favorite flavour out of the 6 available.Cream of Tweet,Nuts for Alredo, and Cinnamon Spice are 3 of the prefered ones.
Hope your cage comes soon, but he will be very happy in the one you got for while. Whilst we are on the subject of the cage,I have to mention I charged you £29.99 by mistake when it should of been £24.99.I got the cage mixed up with one very simular to the one you bought which is £5 more, but they are almost identical.
If you send me your address I will either send you a credit,by way of a cheque,or I will send you a toy or something to the value.

By the way the reason Sue doesnt want me to get another bike is because i told her about a bike accident I had before we met,and it worries her for me to ride again. My back wheel came off the swinging arm of an FJ 1200 travelling at 120mph on the auto ban in Spain, whilst on a touring holiday.Yep Its amazing im typing this now....................lol

good luck with Tino, and keep us updated, but remember sometimes we dont get chance to log on here for a while.
So send to our email as well,to be sure we read it asap.

best wishes

Tracy-Ann & Sue xxx

Neil,I just read about you asking about handling him with a cold.
And this goes out to all bird owners alike......................Its strongly recomended not to cough, sneeze,or even kiss a bird whilst you carry a cold or virus.Especially around Juvinile birds who have lower imune systems than adult birds.
human colds and viruses can be lethal to a bird with a weak imune system,or even under the weather. In fact its been said that we can give birds many things that are contagious, but there are very few things birds can pass on to us.
You can carry on handling him,but aviod face contact until you feel your well again.
Hope Sue and I didnt give you it,as we are both under the weather these last couple of days. eek eek
