I have a spare 6 x 3 avairy and would like to have some parrotlets. How many pairs can I keep in this size avairy (I thought about 3 pairs)?
I know they must be kept seperate when breeding, but what size breeding cage do they require?
Any advice would be appreciated. I live in Worcestershire if anybody has any birds for sale.
Regards
Andy

The only way you could keep more than one pair in an aviary would be to section it off, one section for each pair. They will fight & probably kill each other if you put them all together. They are not aviary birds like budgies. Also, they come from Peru originally so they couldn't handle a British winter unless there is a place for them to go inside. Some people build an aviary onto a shed & have the inside of the shed heated. They put some boxes in the shed that the birds can access from the aviary when they get cold.

Kevin lives in Gloucester, so he can advise you about breeders in your area.

As Andy said Parrotlets are best not kept together as they will fight, they are well known for doing this. If you wanted to keep more than one pair in that avairy you would need to split it in half and then add a double panel in the middle with a gap between the wire so that they could not reach one another. Again they could only spend part of the year in there and then would have to be brought back in.
