We've had our Parrotlet, Harley, for two weeks now. He's almost six months old and seems to be biting more now than when we first brought him home. We play with him everyday, he gets lots of attention from us when we're not at work and he has plenty of toys. Being first time Parrotlet owners, we need some help please. Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum wave We have lots of help on the biting issue but basically you mustn't confuse using his beak to grab things, with actual biting. They do go through stages & he could be molting. Some of the others can give you more advice nodding 2.gif |

hi and welcome to the forum. you may find that he has got used to you and is just seeing how far he can go, and a birds main way of seeing how far they can go is by using thier beaks. You may have to be a little bit strict with him for a week or two and everytime he bites you say NO is a nice firm voice, no shouting and put him down. I f you are near his cage put him in there if you are some way from the cage just put him down on the nearest thing eg shelf ,sofa or chair what ever really. walk away from him for a minute then go back and pick him up, say nice gentle things to him to reasure him, but if he bites start all over again. It can be a tough process but once he has learnt some manners and knows what is good to do and bad to do he will be fine. |

Welcome to the forum! wave I agree, he's probably going through a testing phase, just seeing how far he can get with you! They're smart little guys and will try to get away with things just like kids do. Kevin gave you good advice. There are also a few other methods to reduce biting that you can read about in the links Andy gave you. Some people use the 'earthquake' method where you rock your hand to put the bird slightly off balance for a second. This will stop him biting, then you can praise him. Another thing is to blow on their faces, this usually stops them right away too. Whatever method you use, it's important to be consistent and do it every time he bites. :) |

wave Welcome!!! I agree with the testing phase! They all seem to go through it at one time or another! They need to know the "pecking" order. lol! A firm no and a hard stare usually gets the message across! The are very intelligent little birds! nodding |
