hi every1! luv this site its soo cute just for p'lets! but i hav a problem n its quite a big 1. well i live with my parents in wales n we recently babysat a blue n gold macaw 4 a friend for a month n now we're completely hooked n determined to get a bird for ourselves. But the thing is my parents work all day n im off to uni in september. so i thought a parrotlet would be perfect bcuz according to my research ( which i did a lot of) parrotlets are not as demanding and can b left alone for a period of time provided it has enough toys to occupy itself with. we were pretty gud with the macaw actually and the owners said he looked healthier than before they left him here. so i have no doubt that we will hav a great time with a parrotlet. but here's the big problem! we were able 2 spend a lot of time with the macaw bcuz im on holiday n my mum right now is on leave from work ( has been 4 a long time) bcuz she has severe arthiritis n is havin a knee replacement soon. so if we do get a parrotlet (im suggesting a pair) we'll b able to give it a lot of attention at first but then he'll be alone a lot when we'll all go 2 work/uni but ive read that this is nt the best thing to do and i can understand why. but we soooo want a bird!! the house is soo quiet without d continual shouting, screeching and demand for attention!!! wat should i do?????????? |

Hi & welcome. Usually the rule of thumb is don't spend any longer with your bird at first than you can later on, as they will miss you a lot more after they've got used to you being around. Having said that, maybe if you do get 2 & try not to spend way too much time with them at first, it might work  Let's see what others think. |

Welcome! As long as you wouldn't leave them alone for more than a day, in my opinion, I think a pair of Parrotlets would be ideal for you. I work all day and my weekends are fairly busy but my Parrotlet, Cricket is fine with it. Provide a big cage, lots of toys and you should have no problem. One piece of advice is don't shower them with attention in the beginning unless you can make a routine out of it. Be consistent in that department. |
