I am new to this site, I have a parrotlet for about 3 months now...it is 7 months old trying to figure out if it is a male like the pet shop said...its name is Gizmo.

He is very shy and likes to bite when you try to get him out of his cage...Will he out grow the biting?

I was told by the pet shop that if i got him a mate that he wont let me hold him anymore....is this true?

He is green in color with little bit of blue on his head and a lot of blue under his wings and on his tale feathers.

Since these are miniture parrots ....Do they talk like parrots do?

Sorry, I cannot find a book on Parrotlets here in town and I have a lot of questions.

Thanks for your time, plz respond when reading this!

Hi Kim! Welcome to the forum!

By your description you definitely have a male parrotlet (by the blue on the wings, behind the eyes and above the tail). If you get him a mate, there's a chance that he will bond to his new mate and lose some of its relationship with you. They like humans, but prefer other parrotlets :)

The biting can be worked on, but it does take some patience. You can find lots of info on the forum to help with the biting problem.

These little guys can talk, especially the males. Your little Gizmo could start talking any time now.

Hi Kim..glad you found us! Yes they do talk! But you need to take him into a room where it's quiet and just talk to him... say it over and over again . He'll get it after awhile! That's what I did with my Cricket! Good luck!

hi and welcome to the forum wave wave , i have 3 parrotlets , scooby and sky which are about 9 months old which i intend to breed from them next year, scooby was my first parrotlet and he really liked to bite me, but now after a lot of handling everyday he does not bite so much, so , patience is the key, sky was my second parrotlet and i put scooby and sky together but there are still tame even thought their are a bonded pair . my third parrotlet is smurf , she is on her own and she is silly tame. parrotlets are deffinetly easier to handle when there is only one but 2 is not impossible it just takes patience.
good luck their are definetley worth it
