I need help blue2 blue2 Bailey keeps trying to fly and thus hits the floor. Sometimes hard crying I think he has hurt his wing but not sure what to do about it :scared: I really don't want him flying around and hitting windows or taking a ride on the ceiling fan. But I don't want him hurt all the time either. He just runs everywhere. Today he even jumped out of my hand. Stinker jumping for :( tuttut

How short are his wings clipped? This is usually one of 2 options, either his wings are clipped too short & he can't get enough lift to "glide" down or they're a bit long & he's getting too much lift than he should & is flying too far. Both our guys have "crashed down" drats several times, it's usually not as bad as it looks & it's much better than flying into a window or wall, etc.

Birds are smart & he should soon realize that he is not going far. The only time our guys crash land now is if they're startled  As I said, it's really not as bad as it looks, but you're a good Parront for being concerned. If he keeps doing it, take him to a vet or someone that is very good at clipping, they should be able to give him just the right trim so that he can glide down instead of plummeting. Usually 6-8 feathers clipped will allow them to still have a semblance of flight & avoid the crash :scared: Most people clip 10 feathers (called a "severe" clip) & sometimes this is too much. Again, he should learn that he's not getting anywhere & he'll stop trying. If you think he has damaged a wing, them take him to the vets for a check. Is he holding his wing strange or does it look bent or broken?

I agree with Andy we have to know what kind of clip you have on Bailey now. Too short can make them be off balance really bad. When I clip my pair I don't take a lot off, just enough that they don't have full flight. They can fly into the other room but aren't able to get that super fast flight that they are capable of.

We just clipped Boo Boo again but gave her a 'puppy clip' where we didn't take a whole lot of length off the feathers. She can fly around from perches and land on Andy or whatever her target place is, but she can't go zooming from room to room or get much height. This might be a good clip for Bailey, but like everyone has said, it's best to take him to the vet or someone who is familiar with wing clipping to make sure you get it right. Sometimes it takes a little experimenting to get the perfect clip.

Gosh Thanks guys One wing does look a bit askew but I'm sure the problem is his wings are way to short. How long will it take for them to grow out??? I think he will be alright will try and keep a real close eye on him till he gets his wings back. Doesn't to be petted by his wings. I'm sure he's alittle protective of them.
Thanks Again

Bailey's wings will grow back once he molts which usually starts around four months of age. You'll notice little 'pins' on him and feathers falling everywhere. Then gradually each clipped wing feather will fall out and a new one will grow in its place :)
